A Charters Towers man plans to knock off work early, head to the pub with his mates and shout them all a few beers to celebrate his $1 million Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto win.

The Queenslander held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4179, drawn Wednesday 4 May 2022 and has scored an incredible $1 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at The Queenton Paper Shop, 278 Gill Street, Charters Towers.

Speaking with us this morning, the delighted winner relayed the exciting moment he discovered his life-changing win.

“Woo-hoo! I’m in fine spirits today,” he explained.

“A friend called me first thing this morning because they’d heard someone won division one in Charters Towers and told me to check my Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto ticket.

“I’m at work, so I couldn’t check the ticket straight away. But when I was sitting in the car, I had a moment of free time, so I checked it then.

“I couldn’t believe it! I was crying and shaking in the truck for about an hour. I was an emotional mess.

“It’s fantastic. I’ve always dreamed of this. It’s unbelievable!

“I’m going to go down to the pub with the boys later, and we’ll celebrate with some beers. It’ll probably be an early knockoff.

“I’ve been a bit worried about my retirement. I talked to my family the other day about it and wondered if I’d ever retire. Now, that’s all behind me!

“I’ll use my prize to look after my mum and make sure she’s comfortable and enjoying life.

“The rest I’ll keep for my future retirement.”

The Queenton Paper Shop owner Lance Birkett said he was celebrating the division one win.

“We’re so happy one of our customers has had a big win,” he shared.

“We’ll be sharing the news with everyone. All our customers will be hoping they’re next to win division one.

“Our customers consider us a lucky shop, and we certainly feel that way now.

“Hopefully, some more customers win big. If they have a ticket, they certainly could win!

“We’ve sold about four division one prizes in the past. But we haven’t sold one in about 10 years, so this is a big moment for us.

“Congratulations to our winner. We’re so happy for you!”
