Despite winning the lottery last night, a Hurstbridge man is holding off until dinner tonight to pop the finest bottle of champagne and break the life-changing news to his wife.

The Victorian held one of the three division one winning entries nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4123, drawn Wednesday 20 October 2021. Each division one winning entry scored $1 million.

Speaking with us this afternoon, the overjoyed man relayed the moment he discovered his million-dollar win.

“My wife had gone to bed, and I was just sitting on the couch watching TV, so I quickly checked my ticket,” he revealed.

“At first, I thought I had won one thousand dollars, but then I looked closer and realised it was one million dollars.

“When I saw I had won, I didn’t believe it. I thought it had to be a mistake, so I checked the ticket over and over again.

“Honestly, I thought it must just be a scam. It was such a shock.

“I couldn’t believe it, so you can imagine how bad my sleep was last night. I was tossing and turning all night long.

“I couldn’t even tell my wife. I needed to find out if it was real first. I didn’t want her stressing about it too. She’s going to be so excited when she finds out.

“I’ve bought some champagne and I’ve planned to break the news to my wife tonight. I can’t wait! We will order some takeaway from one our favourite restaurants to celebrate. There’s no way we’ll be cooking.

“Holy hell! I still can’t believe this. One million dollars! This is unreal. I want to cry!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his million-dollar win, the hardworking man admitted he already had a few ideas.

"I have decided I want a new car and my wife has been dreaming of a new kitchen, so we will do that too,” he explained.

“I have worked hard all of my life in very extreme conditions. And I have been in this line of work for over 50 years, so I can’t wait to retire.

“I just want to live the good life now.”

His winning 50-game QuickPick entry was purchased at Hurstbridge Newsagency, 800 Main Road, Hurstbridge.

Hurstbridge Newsagency owner Poovan Sivalingam said he was thrilled for his local customer.

“I am very glad! It’s put us on the map as an outlet that sells big winning entries, which is amazing,” he said.

“We are so happy for the winner. We wish him all the best and hope he can use his prize in many great ways.

“All of our customers have been so excited for us and have congratulated us on this big moment. It’s great for our small community.

“Hopefully, this is the start of a winning streak.”
