A Lithgow man and a north-east Victorian family have started today as Australia’s newest multi-millionaires after sharing last night’s massive $70 million Oz Lotto jackpot.

The two division one winning entries in Oz Lotto draw 1277 drawn Tuesday 7 August 2018 each take home a mouth-watering $35 million.

Last night’s Oz Lotto dual wins bring to an end eight nail-biting weeks of jackpotting which saw Oz Lotto climb to $70 million – its biggest jackpot in five years.

The wins kick-start this record-breaking week of Australian lottery jackpots with $150 million up for grabs across two draws – last night’s $70 million Oz Lotto draw and tomorrow night’s $80 million Powerball draw.

North-east Victorian family syndicate scoops $35 million

From upgrading the washing machine to buying a new rain water tank, a family from north-east Victoria is happily planning how they will use their $35 million Oz Lotto division one windfall after discovering the life-changing win this morning.

The six-member private family syndicate held one of the two division one winning entries in last night’s $70 million Oz Lotto draw.

While their entry was purchased online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries, officials from the Lott were unable to contact the winning ticketholder last night as their contact details were incomplete.

However this morning, the winning woman, surrounded by her family, made contact with the Lott after hearing lottery officials were trying to contact a Victorian online division one winner.

“Oh my god!” the woman said breathlessly when her family’s win was confirmed.

“There’s six of us in the syndicate and everyone will be excited to know it’s all official. It actually ends up benefiting six families.

“We’ve had a group chat going all morning about how we are each going to spend our share of the win.

“I know one family member is going to buy a new washing machine and another is going to get a water tank.

“We are planning a holiday to Europe to visit family and there is talk of celebrating a milestone birthday next year on a cruise.

“We had already been planning it but our plans have certainly been upgraded now! First class all the way!

“We’re going to do heaps of stuff!”

Fast track to retirement for hardworking Lithgow man

A hardworking blue-collar Lithgow man in his 50s has declared he is “blown away” by the news he is now $35 million richer from winning a division one prize in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.

The man was completely unaware of his win until an official from the Lott made contact with him immediately after last night’s draw.

When the life-changing win was confirmed, the Lithgow local couldn’t contain his shock and excitement.

“Oh fair dinkum? You’re kidding?! That is the best news I’ve had in a long time. Hallelujah!” he exclaimed in disbelief.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! That’s hard to process. I’m speechless!

“That has blown me away. That is just great. Thank you, thank you, thank you – just awesome.”

Once the mind-blowing news began to sink in, the hardworking man started to speculate how he might use his $35 million Oz Lotto windfall.

“It goes without saying I’ll be helping the kids out and I’m sure my retirement plans will be fast-tracked,” he declared.

“I’ll tell you what - my next holiday will be at the pointy end of the plane!

“It still hasn’t sunk in yet. It has completely blown us away. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight!”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his 6-game QuickPick entry from Top End Newsagency, 33 Main Street, Lithgow.

Top End Newsagency owner Anna Nguyen said she was thrilled to discover the winning entry had been sold from her outlet.

“How exciting! I can’t think of anything to say at the moment! I’m blown away!” she exclaimed.

“Congratulations to our winner!”

In addition to the two division one winning entries, more than 1.17 million prizes worth more than $26.4 million were won in divisions two to seven across Australia.

There is still a chance for Australians to become overnight multi-millionaires this week, with tomorrow’s Powerball also offering a massive $80 million division one prize.

Last financial year, 18 Oz Lotto division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $237 million.

The winning numbers drawn in Oz Lotto draw 1277 on Tuesday 7 August 2018 were 31, 26, 15, 21, 14, 24 and 40.  The supplementary numbers were 33 and 3.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 242 so far this calendar year.
