Play For Purpose is a not-for-profit raffle helping hundreds of great Australian causes supercharge their fundraising. As part of its support of community organisations, The Lott provides resources and financial support to every Play For Purpose raffle.

A generous Kellyville grandad and long-time Play For Purpose supporter was today surprised with a $250,000 raffle prize win, thanks to a ticket he purchased to raise funds for sick kids.

The New South Wales man’s prize includes a Range Rover Velar worth $125,400, $120,000 in cashable gold bullion and $4,600 in vouchers from some of Australia’s leading retailers.  

Each Play For Purpose ticket gives players the chance to win one of hundreds of prizes while supporting an Australian charitable cause of their choice.  

This morning, we called the Sydney winner, who had no idea he’d scored the $250,000 First Prize Pack.  

“I can’t believe it! I’m shaking like crazy. I don’t even know what to say right now. This is the best phone call I’ve ever received,” he exclaimed.  

“My head is spinning. This is crazy. It feels like a dream! It’s surreal.  

“What a time to win! Not only is it Christmas next week but it’s also my birthday, too! What a fabulous Christmas and birthday present.  

“I’ll share some with my family and it’ll certainly make for an extra special Christmas.   

“I am going out for some drinks tonight for Christmas, so now I’ll have a drink to celebrate this win, too.”  

The overjoyed winner shared he’d been purchasing Play For Tickets since the not-for-profit raffle launched in 2018.  

“I’ve been buying Play For Purpose tickets since the beginning and will continue to do so.” he explained. 

“Not only is there a chance to win an awesome prize but also support a charity. How good!  

“I always buy tickets to support Starlight. I really love all the amazing work they do. I’ve got lots of grandkids and I would absolutely hate to see them in that position.   

“Starlight do so much for these families, and I think their work is so important.  

“I love charity raffles and I always try and support kids’ charities. I buy tickets into Play For Purpose purely for the charity. I don’t care if I don’t win, but geez, it’s a nice surprise!  

“I am so glad that Starlight will receive a bonus $5,000 because I’ve won this prize. It makes the win that much sweeter!” 

The winner bought his winning Play For Purpose ticket in support of Starlight Children's Foundation.  

Starlight Children's Foundation State Partnerships Manager said she was thrilled to hear that a supporter had scored the prize pack.  

“We are so excited to hear that one of our Starlight supporters has won the major prize in Play For Purpose.” she said.  

“How amazing is that?! What a beautiful Christmas gift! We are so excited for them. 

“Starlight has partnered with Play For Purpose since it started in 2018 and has been able to raise over $140,000. This money has been used to create valuable experiences for sick children in hospital at the Starlight Express rooms.  

"This is incredible. It's given me goosebumps. I am so happy!”  

Other major prize-winners were from across Australia, including Malvern East, East Brisbane, Mascot and Kingaroy who won second, third, fourth and fifth prize packages in support of Love Your Sister, Karuna, Rural Aid and RizeUp.
