It’s easy to think food simply comes from the supermarket. But what ends up on your table most likely began its life under the careful care of an Aussie farmer.

In fact, Australian farmers produce almost 93% of our daily domestic food supply.

But keeping Australia fed means farmers have a lot on their plate! Between drought, fire, and floods, rural communities endure a number of challenges to keep our country going. Whatever impacts our farmers, impacts us all.

Play for Purpose raffle winner, Anne, is a third-generation farmer from Dirranbandi, a small town on the Queensland and New South Wales border.

She’s experienced first-hand the challenges of living in a rural and drought-stricken area.

“For about nine years we’ve had just dirt – not a blade of grass or anything. It’s very depressing. It played on my mental health a lot,” she said.

“It’s impacted the small businesses in the town, not just the properties.”

Thankfully, support is available.Rural Aid is one of Australia's largest rural charities and a key charity available to support through the Play For Purpose raffle.

The charity is well known for the highly successful 'Buy a Bale' campaign, and also provides financial assistance, water and counselling to farmers in times of natural disasters.

More than that, Rural Aid is on a mission to strengthen our rural farming communities, even before disaster hits.

This year, Rural Aid kicked off its ‘Our Towns’ initiative.Over the next five years, nominated rural towns will receive $100,000 to support, renew and grow their communities.

Projects like these are made possible through the help of fundraising.

In December, Anne purchased a ticket into the Play For Purpose charity raffle in support of Rural Aid. In the ultimate win-win, 50% of her ticket purchase went directly to the charity, while Anne had the chance to score a fantastic prize.

When the raffle was drawn, Anne was the third major prize winner, scoring a $7,500 Myer voucher.

“A lady rang me and told me I’d won the third major prize in the raffle. I didn’t actually believe her because I never win anything!” she said.

With the next Play For Purpose raffle draw just around the corner, now’s your chance to support amazing Australian charities like Rural Aid and go into the draw for the chance to win a first prize pack worth $250,000.

With a minimum of $5 from every $10 ticket going to a charity or sporting club of your choice — and over 500 causes available to support— all you need to decide is who you're playing for!
