The $110 million Powerball jackpot has been won by three division one winning entries, one each from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, each taking home a division one prize of $36,666,666.67.

The three division one winners were the only division one winners nationally in Powerball draw 1209 drawn Thursday 18 July 2019.

Sleepless night for young Adelaide man

A young man from Adelaide was in for a sleepless night, after receiving a phone call with news that he is now a multi-millionaire after scoring a division one prize in the $110 million Powerball draw.

As well as winning the coveted division one prize of $36,666,666.67 the thrilled winner also scored division two 19 times, bolstering his total prize to $37,602,912.27.

“Wow,” he eventually said after a moment of stunned silence.

“Thank you so much! That is incredible. I can’t believe that. I am shaking so much.

“This is going to change so many lives!”

The winner finally answered his phone on the second call, but admitted he wasn’t expecting the life-changing news.

“I was definitely not expecting this phone call!” he laughed in shock.

“Just like everyone who buys a ticket you never think it’s going to actually happen to you.

“My heart is going a million miles an hour. That’s unbelievable! Wow! Thank you!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his Powerball windfall, he said sharing with family and charities was the priority.

“I would love to take my family on a holiday!” he said.

“I’m not sure where exactly I’ll be going but I think a round-the-world trip might be on the cards. In fact, we could even do it first class!

“I’ll also pay off my family’s mortgages and donate heaps to charity."

As for whether the winner would be returning to work, he joked he was contemplating drafting his resignation letter immediately.

“I might quit my job,” he laughed.

“I don’t know, I’m still in shock! I just can’t wait to get off the phone so I can call my family and tell them the news.

I don’t know if they’ll even believe me!”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his QuickPick Powerhit entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

New South Wales couple claims $36.6 million prize
A young family from Sydney are feeling overwhelmed after discovering they held the winning New South Wales entry from last night’s Powerball draw, which scored them a $36.6 million prize.

Sharing their joy this morning, the winning woman confessed they were going to take a moment to let the life-changing news sink in.

“It all feels very surreal at the moment!” she said.

“I think we’ll just have to take it one step at a time and see how we go!

“We’ve got two kids so this will go a long way to setting them up for the future.”

When asked how they planned to enjoy their multi-million dollar windfall, the happy Sydneysider confessed she wouldn’t be giving up her day job.

“I love my job in medical research so won’t be giving that up but I do hope to use the money in a meaningful way.”

Macedon Ranges family “fantasising about the future”
A young Macedon Ranges family has begun “fantasising about the future” after confirming their $36.6 million Powerball win from the $110 Powerball draw.

The Victorian couple was the last of the winning division one ticketholders from the draw to claim their prize.

As their entry was not registered to a Tatts Card, Tatts had no way of contact the ticketholder and had to wait for them to make contact.

When we confirmed their multi-million-dollar win, the self-described “everyday couple” were initially too stunned to speak before they finally dissolved into hysterical laughter.

“Say it again!” the winning woman asked.

“Umm, yeah! I have no words!” the man added.

“We checked our entry yesterday. We just kept looking at the numbers. I was saying ‘the numbers are not in the same order as the computer’ so I wasn’t sure if the order mattered or not and whether we’d really won,” she said.

“You never know until you get it confirmed!

“It’s funny. We were talking on Friday night and he was talking about what he would do if he won the lottery.

“I said ‘stop planning your life around winning the lottery’. We’re everyday people but I feel we’ve already won the lottery with our family.  We had no idea we’d just won Powerball!”

The happy man shared he usually purchased an entry when the Powerball jackpot started to soar.

“I’ve been playing with the dream that one day I might win division two or something like that. This is just a bit more than that!

“It’s mind-blowing. It’s life-altering. It means I can give my family everything they need. It’s amazing! It really is.”

The couple said celebrations had already begun with a glass of champagne.

“We don’t know what we’re going to do just yet,” she explained.

“We’re just absorbing it. It wasn’t until we spoke to you just now that we’ve gone ‘ok, this is going to happen’.

“We’ve all had conversations with a partner or a mate saying ‘if I won the lottery, I would do this, this and this’. Now it’s actually happened. Now we can talk about it and it means we can actually do what we said we were going to do. We’re fantasising about the future now.

“We’ve always said if we were to ever win we would give some to causes that matter to us. That’s what we’ll do. It’s a little bit of karma.

“Though I probably won’t still believe this is all real until I see it in the bank account.”

The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Mid-Town Lotto, Shop 3, Gisborne Central Shopping Centre, 10-20 Aitken Street, Gisborne.

Mid-Town Lotto owner John Kelly said he and his team were thrilled the winning ticketholder had been united with their prize.

“The win has created a bit of a buzz around town, that’s for sure,” he said.

“The win has really been well received by everyone. The community seems thrilled someone local won.

In addition to the three division one winners, a total of 3,519,175 prizes worth more than $60.4 million were won in divisions two to nine.
