A Brighton man has received a life-changing shock after routinely checking his TattsLotto ticket and discovering it was worth more than $1.8 million.

The Victorian player held one of the 11 division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4049 on Saturday 9 May 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of $1,818,181.82.

The ticket was unregistered, so we had no way of contacting the winner to break the news. Instead, we had to wait for the ticketholder to come forward and claim his prize.

Sharing his joy with our team this morning, the winner revealed the news had come completely out of the blue.

“It’s so nice to hear!” he exclaimed.

“I had no idea I had won anything.

“I buy a ticket every week and only check my tickets when I buy the next one.

“I am usually excited if I get a little win. This is a nice sum to win!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy life as a newly-minted millionaire, the thrilled man revealed he couldn’t wait to share it with his family.

“I think I’ll sit on it for a moment as there isn’t much I can do while restrictions are in place,” he explained.

“It will be a good time to do some planning on how I can enjoy it once they are lifted.

“I’ll also share it with my family and help them out.”

The winning entry was purchased at East Brighton Newsagency 613 Hampton Street, Brighton.

East Brighton Newsagency owner Rod Harris said he was happy his winner had been united with his prize.

“We’re so happy the winner has discovered their win and they are a regular customer and a local to the area,” he said.

“Best wishes to our winner. We hope the win brings good things for him and his family.”
