A midnight drink of water gave a Caloundra man the perfect excuse to check his numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto’s draw, the only issue being that he and his wife couldn’t get back to sleep after realising they were division one winners.

The Caloundra couple held one of the five division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4245 on Saturday 26 March 2022. Each division one winning entry scored $1,146,615.85.

The excited couple admitted they celebrated over the weekend, starting with champagne with family members.

“I told the newsagent, ‘you are looking at the division one winner right here’ when I bought the ticket,” the winning wife said.

“Little did I know, we were about to become millionaires!”

The happy husband explained he couldn’t believe his eyes when he first checked his ticket so woke his wife to get a second opinion.

“We didn’t get any sleep after midnight on Saturday. I woke up and was immediately in shock,” he laughed.

“I just kept scanning the ticket because I couldn’t believe we’d become division one winners!

“We contacted our children and asked them to meet us. As I got out of the car, I said, ‘we’ve got a problem kids, we don’t know what to do with this,’ and showed them the win.

“It doesn’t happen to people like us. We just feel so blessed.

“I think we’ll try and wrap our heads around the win first, then we’ll share it with our family and buy ourselves a new car.”

The winning entry was purchased at Pelican Waters Newsagency, Shop 10 Pelican Waters Shopping Village, 44 Pelican Waters Boulevard, Pelican Waters.

Pelican Waters Newsagency owners Mark and Lynda Stringer said it was a fantastic feeling to sell their first division one winning entry.

“We’re completely blown away!” they proclaimed.

“There’s a buzz around the shop. Every customer hopes they’re next.

“We want to wish the winners our sincere congratulations and all the best in the future.”
