More than three months after the draw a Canberra resident has checked his Saturday Lotto ticket to discover $1.6 million had been tucked away in his drawer at home for months. 

The elusive winner held one of the four division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4097 on Saturday 24 October 2020. Each division one winning entry scored $1,614,571.04. 

Sharing his disbelief with us this afternoon, the man explained he couldn’t believe the prize had been hiding in plain sight all this time. 

“I’ve been playing Lotto for about 10 years, and I don’t check my tickets all the time. I only check them every three months or so,” he explained. 

“I finally got around to checking my ticket and I couldn’t believe it! 

“It has been in a drawer at home this whole time. 

“It’s crazy to think that $1.6 million has been sitting in that drawer for months! 

“I wish I had of checked the ticket sooner. 

“For the past 10 years I have been dreaming of what this day would be like, and suddenly it has arrived, and I am speechless! 

“It was crazy. It was amazing. I can’t describe the feeling. It felt so good!” 

When asked how life looked as a sudden millionaire, the Canberra man said he couldn’t wait to enjoy the financial freedom. 

“I am going to take care of my family and pay off the mortgage,” he declared. 

“I’ll definitely keep working and think of how to invest the rest!” 

The winning entry was purchased at Euro Garages Australia - Hume, Woolworths Caltex Petrol, 94 Shepherd Street, Hume. 

The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 4097 on 24 October 2020 were 31, 38, 3, 30, 23 and 45, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 40.
