“This is an absolute pleasure shock”: Helensvale retiree flabbergasted by new multi-millionaire status

A Helensvale retiree’s quiet Sunday was rocked by the revelation he’d become an overnight multi-millionaire from his Saturday Gold Lotto win.

“You’re joking!” he exclaimed when we revealed his good fortune.

“I’ve got to sit down. Wow! The heart’s going a bit funny at the moment.

“I’ve played these numbers for quite some time. I won a prize using those numbers on Powerball once, so I just kept using those numbers. I’m glad I kept those numbers.

“My wife’s just yelled out, ‘brilliant!’. It’s just fantastic.

“It doesn’t feel real. This is an absolute pleasure shock. You’ve made my Sunday to say the least.

“We’re both retired and we wanted to move to live closer to our children but couldn’t afford it. Now we can.”

His marked System entry was purchased at Pacific Pines Newsagency, Shop 2, Pacific Pines Shopping Centre, 6 Hotham Drive, Pacific Pines.

Pacific Pines Newsagency owner Jack Xu said he was revelling in the fact his outlet had made one of his customers a multi-millionaire.
“I couldn't believe we sold a division one winning entry when I first found out. I had to check the memo three times to make sure as it’s the first division one winning entry we’ve sold in seven years,” he said.

“I’ve already shared the news with some of our customers, and ‘good on the winner’ and ‘congratulations to them’ are the two sentences I’ve heard the most.

“It's been tough since COVID and most people in our local community have had it tough too. We hope selling a division one winning entry will bring good news to the community and bring hope to everyone.”

Young Coomera man begins hunting for first family home with Saturday Gold Lotto prize

A Coomera man in his 20s who won more than $2.1 million in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw admits he’s already begun shopping for his family’s first dream home.

“I know why you’re calling!” the man exclaimed when we reached out to confirm his windfall.

“I checked my ticket on Saturday night around 10pm. I couldn’t believe it. I kept checking to make sure I was reading the right thing.

“Wow! That’s cool!

“I did get a little bit of sleep, but then I woke up very early to check my ticket again. I just had to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

“I’m not even 30 and something like this doesn’t really happen to people like me. Well, I guess it does now.

“I’ve been playing Lotto for the past two years. I was using my own numbers, but then I just started getting QuickPicks.

“I don’t even know what’s going through my head right now.

“I can buy a house. This will be the first home for my family. I don’t have to worry about a home loan!

“I have already started looking online.

“I’ll still be going to work this week, but I’ll certainly have a spring in my step.”

His winning 36-game QuickPick entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
