A Maldon grandfather received the shock of his life when he asked his local newsagent who had won the town’s $2.5 million TattsLotto prize, only to discover it was him!

The Mount Alexander region resident held one of eight division one winning entries across Australia in TattsLotto draw 4233, drawn Saturday 12 February 2022.

“You’re not going to tell me I’ve won $2.5 million?” he nervously asked when we contacted him this morning.

“Oh my! I went into the newsagency yesterday to purchase an entry into Oz Lotto and Powerball and I noticed the sign saying they had sold another division one winning entry.

“I told the team member, ‘Congratulations,’ and asked, ‘Do you know who won it?’.

“I was curious as they sold another division one winning entry recently. The team member told me the winner hadn’t come forward yet!

“They said The Lott would reach out to the winner on Monday morning if the entry was registered, and here we are! I can’t believe it. You better call a paramedic!

“I didn’t even bother to check my TattsLotto entry while I was there! I like to check my lottery entries all at once.

“I’ve been playing TattsLotto since lottery entries were hand-written. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m over the moon.

“I’ve had a few little bites here and there, but $2.5 million is next level. This is incredible. You can ring me any day!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his life-changing multi-million-dollar win, the generous man said he would share with his family.

“I can’t wait to help out my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I’m sure they’ll be very spoilt!

“I’m having a cup of coffee to celebrate, it’s all I can do at the moment!”

His winning 8-game QuickPick was purchased from Maldon Newsagency, 56 Main Street, Maldon.

Maldon Newsagency owner Barb Ford said she was delighted the division one win went  to a regular and loyal customer.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have sold our second division one winning entry in five months! It’s always great seeing it go to our local community,” she said.

“The winner came in yesterday to congratulate us on selling another division one winning entry, and he came back this morning. I was curious why he had returned! We’re so happy for him.

“We wish him all the very best and a big congratulations on winning division one!”
