Purchasing the wrong ticket turned out right for a Fortitude Valley grandmother who never usually plays Saturday Gold Lotto, but this morning woke up to a $2 million windfall.

The Brisbane resident held one of the five division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4211, drawn Saturday 27 November 2021. Each division one winning entry took home $2 million.

Sharing her disbelief with an official from The Lott this afternoon, the woman explained a social media post had prompted her to check her life-changing entry.

“I’m shaking! I can’t believe it. I never in a million years thought I’d receive this phone call,” she happily shared.

“I went into the newsagency to purchase an entry into Powerball, and the team member suggested I play Saturday Gold Lotto.

“I never purchase entries into Saturday Gold Lotto, but I’m so glad I did. This is life changing!

“Earlier this morning, my daughter told me there was a Facebook post about a mystery division one winner who purchased their entry at NightOwl Brunswick Street. I thought, ‘I better check this’.

“My husband was laying down, and I ran to him and said, ‘I think I might have this. I really might have won’.

“We phoned our daughter and told her to read the numbers out, and that’s when we knew our life had changed forever. We had to close our blinds so we could let out some screams!

“My husband said to me, ‘I might be having heart failure!’.

“You always hear of people winning the lottery, but you never think it would happen to you.”

With $2 million about to land in her bank account, the mind-boggled woman said the prize would help her family in significant ways.

“It’s been a very stressful year for my partner and I. This will take the pressure off tremendously,” she said.

“We hope to help our children and grandchildren. We’re also going to retire earlier than expected.

“This is fantastic. Thank you so much.”

The winning entry was purchased at Nightowl Brunswick Street, Ground Floor, 301 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

Nightowl Brunswick Street owner Musa Bozova said the team was thrilled to have sold a division one winning entry.

“This is the biggest prize our outlet has ever had. It’s a huge milestone for the whole team!” she said.

“We’re planning on decorating the store and advising our customers of the exciting news! We can imagine they will all be elated and happy for us.

“On behalf of the team at Nightowl Brunswick Street, we would like to congratulate the winner and wish them all the best with their prize.”
