A crane driver from Townsville says he’s going to kiss night shifts goodbye after discovering he won the First Prize in last night’s Set for Life draw. 

The Queensland man’s entry was the only First Prize winning entry in Set for Life draw 1397, drawn on Monday 3 June 2019. He takes home $20,000 a month for the next 20 years. 

The North Queenslander is the 49th Set for Life First Prize winner since the game began. 

The Townsville man’s workday was interrupted this morning when we called him to break the news of his win. 

“Holy sh**! Thank you very much!” he laughed. 

“You bloody beauty! 

“This has changed my whole life. You have made my year, my life! 

“I have been through some hard times, so this has absolutely come at the perfect time. 

“I am very overwhelmed. I am very excited. 

“God it hasn’t sunk in but I am definitely going to celebrate tonight. I might even go away this weekend!” 

So far this year there have been six Set for Life First Prize winners, with three of these from Queensland. 

When asked how he planned to use his prize, the hardworking man said he had plenty of ideas, starting with saying goodbye to night shifts. 

“I am going to kiss night shifts and overtime goodbye,” he declared. 

“I think I am absolutely going to retire soon too. 

“I am going to spend a lot of time relaxing and fishing! It’s one of my favourite things to do. 

“Of course, I am going to help my family and fix up my house too. 

“Then I am going to see the whole world! I am going to do a big United States and Canada trip first. 

“I am just going to keep on travelling. I love travelling and going on adventures so this will allow me to do that!” 

The happy man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning QuickPick entry at Vincent Village Newsagency, Shop 2, Vincent Village, 249 Fulham Road, Vincent. 

Vincent Village Newsagency owner Robert Amisano said he was thrilled to sell a winning First Prize entry to one of his customers. 

“It’s such great news,” he said. 

“I am extremely happy for our winner and wish him all the best with his prize!

“We are always happy when our customers win any prize, but when they win a major prize, that’s something else. 

“We can’t wait to sell some more big winning tickets to our customers again soon!” 

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 1397 were 9, 34, 26, 14, 29, 33, 23 and 25, while the bonus numbers were 27 and 12.
