All kids deserve to grow up in an environment that’s safe and free from harm and abuse.

And that’s precisely what the Daniel Morcombe Foundation does – they provide children with education, protection and support to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing both physically and in the online environment

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in 2005 by parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe in honour of their 13-year-old-son Daniel, who was abducted from a Sunshine Coast bus stop and murdered.

Daniel’s parents wanted to give back to the community that supported them after Daniel went missing and to prevent others from experiencing the same horrific grief.

And now, we want to say a big thanks by providing another $300,000 donation from The Lott by Golden Casket, with this donation from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money.

The donation will help the Foundation continue its important work in child safety education. This includes growing its school-based programs, holding child safety events, and supporting victims of crime and families of missing persons.

The donation continues our annual support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation that first began in 2019. The total amount donated to the Foundation, including today’s funds, amounts to $1.2 million.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation co-founders Bruce and Denise Morcombe said they remained committed to making communities a safer place for children.

“We cannot thank The Lott enough. They have continued their support of the Foundation for over four years with an incredible $1.2 million in funding,” Bruce said.

“With this funding, we have been able to educate hundreds of thousands of children about their personal safety.”

“The Foundation is able to create well-researched, evidence-based, fun and engaging educational resources that are completely free of charge,” Denise added.

“By doing so, we have also been able to keep many, many more kids safe around Australia.”

The Lott Partnerships Manager Ally Ramsamy said she hoped the donation would help the Foundation’s mission.

“Australia’s official lotteries have a long history of supporting the communities we operate in, and we’re proud to continue that tradition through our support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and the vital work it does,” she said.

“One of the most important things we can do as caregivers is to protect our children by educating them about personal safety. Thanks to the Foundation, kids, parents, educators and carers have a better understanding of how they can keep their kids safe from abuse and risk of harm.

“Through important community initiatives, such as Day for Daniel, The Boomer Challenge, Safe Bedrooms, Changing Futures, Talk Early, and Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson, along with a growing number of resources for children, parents, carers and educators, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is making Australia a safer place for our kids.”

An initiative we’re particularly excited about that’s coming up is Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson - a free live-streamed event that engages children across the country in vital personal safety education. Tune in on Tuesday, 6 September, for this critical child safety lesson!
