Every Thursday and Sunday during Darwin’s ‘dry season’, stallholders at Mindil Beach Sunset Markets are sewing their last stitch, baking their last loaf and cooking their last tasty treat in readiness for a busy evening.

These stallholders have been waiting for the heat of summer to pass and for the wet season to come to a close so they can start selling their local produce, gifts, and treats at Darwin’s most famous markets.

The markets run twice a week from April to October on the city’s magnificent Mindil Beach. It features over 200 stalls, along with live music and performances by local aboriginal groups.

The sunset markets are the showpiece of Thursday and Sunday nights in Darwin, with locals referring to it as “the best place in Australia to watch the sunset”.

In addition to giving locals and tourists a great night out, the markets also support the livelihood of local small business owners.

Mindil Beach Sunset Markets is run by a not-for-profit group that provides a platform for local businesses to sell their wares, in turn providing employment for more than 1,000 local residents.

It is estimated over one million people attend the markets each year, helping the markets contribute $15 million to the Northern Territory economy.

The markets also enjoy strong ties with local community groups and supporters who are actively involved in developing the markets.

The Lott, through Tatts NT, has been a long-term supporter of Mindil Beach Sunset Markets and is proud to support a not-for-profit that gives so much to Darwin’s local community and small business.

The Lott also provides the Set for Life Marquee at the markets, offering the best seat in the house to any business or community group looking to host their next event.
