It was another week full of surprises here at the Lott as we heard from not one, but two big winners who received their winning lottery ticket as a gift for their birthdays!

We’ve wrapped up these incredible stories along with some of our other favourite moments from the week below. Check them out— they really take the cake!

Bundaberg man’s perfect birthday prize

Forget socks and jocks, a Bundaberg man received what may be his best birthday gift ever — a Saturday Gold Lotto ticket worth more than $500,000!

His wife bought him the ticket for his big day, and when they discovered it had won division one, they couldn’t stop shaking and laughing.

The retirees can’t wait to treat themselves and their families. It will be the gift that keeps on giving!

Tassie man receives a top gift from his mate

Surprising us this week was a second winner celebrating a birthday windfall! A man from Sandy Bay in Tasmania received an Instant Scratch-Its ticket from a friend for his birthday, which won him a top prize of $25,000.

“When I saw I won $25,000, I was gobsmacked! My mate was gobsmacked!” he told us.

“We were jumping around the place like idiots and screaming our heads off.”

We have no doubt it he’ll be enjoying this gift for a long time, as he plans to use the prize for a house deposit.

Gold at the end of the rainbow for Nerang Locals

For seven years, newsXpress Nerang have run a weekly Saturday Gold Lotto syndicate they gave the charming name “End of the Rainbow.”

Well, this weekend that rainbow led to a pot of gold worth over half a million dollars!

The winning syndicate held one of the ten division one winning entries across Australia in the weekend’s  Saturday Lotto draw and is shared by ten Gold Coast locals.

newsXpress Nerang owner Cathryn Smith said it was an incredible win for the community.

“This will spread plenty of positivity around the area, especially at such a challenging time for everyone,” she said.

“It’s a great news story!”

Channel Nine’s Gold Telethon ready to go!

It’s said that where there’s a will there’s a way and the team at Channel Nine and the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick have done an exceptional job finding a way for their annual Gold Telethon to go ahead this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has meant this important fundraising event will look a little different, but the commitment to the cause remains stronger than ever.

In a two-hour TV special involving heartwarming stories, entertainment and plenty of special guests attending virtually, the event aims to raise funds for life-saving medical research as well as patient and family support programs.
