A Bracken Ridge woman has confessed to being thankful for her disbelieving daughter after discovering she was now $100,000 richer, not $10,000 as she first thought, after scratching one of the top prizes on a $5 Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its.

When we spoke to the excited winner, she recounted the moment she discovered she was instantly $100,000 richer.

“Every Friday I buy a couple of scratchies before work,” she explained.

“If I have a win of $7 or $10 I always use that to buy the next batch. Last Friday I had $15 worth of winnings to spend so I bought three $5 scratchies.

“I started scratching it and noticed I had a few words. I started writing them down and originally thought I had won $750.

“I then checked all the letters to each word and thought I had won $10,000. I even got everyone at work to check to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.

“I called my daughter and told her I had won $10,000. She wasn’t even that excited for me.

“So I said to myself ‘I’ll show her!’ and I took a photo and sent it to her.

“She called me right back and said, ‘Mum, you didn’t scratch the ‘I’ in mini. You’ve won $100,000!’”

The woman revealed she immediately went out to celebrate the life-changing news.

“After discovering I had actually won $100,000 I decided to finish work early,” the winner confessed.

“I went out with a few people from work to the local tavern to celebrate!”

When asked how she planned to spend her Instant Scratch-its windfall the thrilled woman admitted she already had a few things in mind.

“I’ll use it to do a few things around the house. I’ll give some to the kids and I think I’ll flash out on a new car!” she exclaimed.

“It will give me a bit of a boost to do the things I would have had to save for.”

The thrilled woman bought her winning $5 Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket from Geebung Convenience, Shop 2, 8 Railway Parade, Geebung.

Geebung Convenience owner Stefan Sem said he was thrilled to hear his outlet had sold its first major prize.

“I’m so happy for our winner!” he exclaimed.

“We are a new outlet and have only been here two years. It is the first major prize we have sold so we are very excited.

“We wish them all the best with their win!”
