A Pooraka man bagged more than just some milk and bread while shopping at his local grocery store this week, pocketing one of the top prizes on a $10  Instant Scratch-Its ticket.

The winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at FoodWorks Pooraka, 39 Desmond Avenue, Pooraka.

Speaking to us when claiming his prize today, the ecstatic man confessed he was still coming to terms with his $250,000 prize.

“I was very surprised!” he laughed.

“I had popped into the store to pick up a few things and also bought this ticket. I scratched it when I got home.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes.

"I wasn’t sure what I was seeing and if I really had won $250,000 so I went back to the store to confirm. They told me I wasn’t seeing things and I really had won.

“Wow!”

The Adelaide resident explained the $250,000 instant surprise followed some other smaller wins he had had on his Instant Scratch-Its tickets.

“I only ever get $10 Instant Scratch-Its and I’ve been on a bit of a winning streak,” he said.

“Last week I won $150 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket and I used some of that to buy this ticket!”

The winner admitted he had been happily planning how he would use his $250,000 windfall.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night just thinking about what I might do,” he said.

“I definitely want to go on an overseas holiday and catch up with some of my family. That would be great.”

FoodWorks Pooraka supervisor Chloe Rundle said it was an exciting moment when she scanned the winner’s ticket and confirmed his prize.

“The winner had just been in and had bought some tickets, so it was a surprise to see him come back so soon,” she said.

“He said ‘I think I’ve won a top prize!’. I checked it for him and said ‘oh my god, you have!’.

“It was just fantastic to be the one to confirm it for him.

“It’s been a while since we last sold a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket and it was great to see it go to one of our regular customers.

“We wish him all the very best with his prize.”
