A Kilcoy couple who purchased a winning division one entry into Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto more than two weeks ago have finally checked their ticket in Mount Isa to discover they won $1 million.

The ecstatic couple held the only division one winning entry in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3821, drawn Wednesday 28 November 2018, winning the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.

As the entry was unregistered, we had no way of contacting them with the dream-come-true news and had to wait for the winners to come forward and claim their prize.

The retired couple revealed they’d been out bush for weeks and were unable to check their ticket until their drive home to Kilcoy from the Northern Territory.

The woman contacted us from a newsagency in Mount Isa after the outlet scanned their ticket and was notified of a major win.

When we confirmed the couple had won a whopping $1 million, the ecstatic woman broke down in tears.

“You’re joking, you’re joking,” she screamed with disbelief.

“Oh my god, I can’t believe it.

“That’s wonderful, I have to go tell my husband, he’s sitting in the car waiting for me!”

The couple had no idea we had been searching for the mystery millionaire for almost two weeks.

“We’ve been out busy visiting a cattle station in the Northern Territory, in the middle of nowhere,” she explained.

“We just stopped in at Mount Isa on our drive back to Kilcoy to get the paper and check the tickets.

“I just cannot believe this!

“I’m so excited I can’t think straight.”

The couple said they plan to play it safe with their windfall.

“We’re pensioners so we won’t be doing anything crazy with it, we will just try and help our children a little bit,” she explained.

“I go on holidays overseas every year, we always have to save so hard for our holidays, now I don’t have to save so hard anymore.”

The million-dollar winning Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto ticket was purchased at Clew’s Newsagency, 99 Archer Street, Woodford.

Clew’s Newsagency owner Andrew Clews said he was excited to hear that the winners finally checked their ticket.

“It’s so nice to know they’ve come forward and claimed their prize,” he said.

“It’s been years since we’ve sold a division one winning entry so it’s a relief to break the drought!”
