"Bloody hell!": Dalby man discovers he won $3 million Powerball prize a week ago
A down-to-earth Dalby man has had a shocking start to his morning after today discovering he won more than $3 million in last week’s Powerball draw.
The man confessed he had been oblivious to the fact he held one of the two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1134 on 8 February 2018.
In addition to his division one prize of $3 million, the man’s two-entry PowerHit entry also won division two 19 times, bolstering his total prize to $3,230,892.75.
But the man’s winning entry was not registered to a Winners Circle card so Golden Casket officials had no way to deliver the dream-come-true news.
This morning, a week after his winning numbers were drawn, the man discovered he had been a multi-millionaire for the past seven days but didn’t know it.
“Bloody hell! Thank you!” the man exclaimed when his win was confirmed by a Golden Casket official.
“Yah, nah, that’s pretty good. I didn’t have a clue. I hadn’t heard there’d been a win in town.
“I can’t get my head around it.
“I just came in to buy the paper and buy a ticket for tonight’s Powerball draw!”
With his new multi-millionaire status still sinking in, the man didn’t quite know how he was going to use his windfall.
“Don’t know. Couldn’t tell you. I’ll pay the house off, go from there and think about it after,” he laughed.
“But I’ll definitely have a spring in my step today and be celebrating.”
While his bank account is about to receive a seven-figure boost, don’t expect this hardworking man to retire anytime soon.
“I’ve worked all my life and I still will,” he said.
The man also explained he’s only been playing these winning numbers on a PowerHit entry for the past six weeks.
A PowerHit entry guarantees the all-important Powerball number.
“I’ve always been lucky with Powerball over the years. I’ve won a few little things. I don’t play anything else but Powerball,” he declared.
“I’ve been playing Powerball for the past 10 to 15 years. About six weeks ago the newsagent gave me a PowerHit QuickPick and I’ve kept using those numbers ever since.”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning two-game PowerHit entry at Dalby Newsagency, 97-99 Cunningham Street, Dalby.
Dalby Newsagency manager Malene Price said the outlet was thrilled the winner had been united with his prize.
“This is our first division one win in about 10 years. I’m so excited,” she exclaimed.
“It’s been a busy week with lots of people wondering who the mystery winner could be.
“We wish the winner all the very best with their prize.”
The six winning numbers in Powerball draw 1134 on Thursday 8 February 2018 were 33, 7, 12, 38, 23 and 10, while the all-important Powerball number was 16.
Throughout Australia, there two division one winning entries – one each from New South Wales and Queensland.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 277 so far this financial year, including 65 won by Golden Casket customers.
