A Greenfield Park man is looking forward to sharing his multi-million dollar windfall with multiple family members after discovering he had scored the entire $8 million division one prize in last night’s Powerball draw.
The happy winner was the only division one winner in Powerball draw 1144 drawn Thursday 19 April 2018.
He is the first division one winner from the new Powerball game – which features a change to the game matrix aimed at delivering bigger jackpots and more overall prizes.
While his entry was registered, a NSW Lotteries official was initially unable to contact him this morning, but was eventually able to deliver the big news.
“Very good! I’m still in shock!” the winner exclaimed when his win was confirmed.
“I checked my ticket but I thought I’d better get in touch to make sure it was real.
“I’m away on holidays at the moment and now it’s confirmed you’ve made it a beautiful holiday for me!
“I’m not sure whether to talk about the win or not – but it’s a nice problem to have!”
The regular player confessed his family was the inspiration for him playing his 18-game marked entry.

“I’ve been using these numbers for my late father believe it or not. I’ve been putting them on for three years.

“He said ‘Keep putting the numbers on for me, they may come good for the family’ and it seems he was right.
“He had been playing the numbers for 20 years and we are so lucky we retained them after he was gone.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Powerball windfall, he revealed it would go towards helping his family who inspired the numbers.
“We a large family and seeing as they were my late father’s numbers I’m sure he would like the family to be looked after as he always did the right thing by his family.
“I’ve been the custodian of these numbers for the family I suppose so they are the main thing.
“He always said it was his hope that he could help the family so now it has come true!”
The winning entry was purchased from Greenfield Newsagent, Shop 15, Greenfield Park Shopping Village, Greenfield Road, Greenfield Park.
Greenfield Newsagent staff member Gina Chen said the outlet was celebrating selling its first Powerball division one prize.
“Oh my god. I opened this morning and saw the message that we had sold the division one prize. The blood went to my head!” she laughed.
“We’re so happy for our winner!”
Across Australia, there were 404,527 winners across all nine divisions in last night’s game who took home $14,757,268.30 in prizemoney. There were 276,414 winners alone in the newly-introduced division nine who shared more than $2.73 million.
The six winning numbers in Powerball draw 1144 on Thursday 19 April 2018 were 9, 5, 32, 13, 33, 4 and 25, while the all-important Powerball number was 7.
