Generous Camden granddad discovers winning $3 million Powerball ticket in wallet
A Powerball ticket languishing unchecked in a Camden granddad’s wallet has been revealed as the entry that won $3 million more than a week ago.
The Camden entry was one of the two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1134 on 8 February 2018.
Each entry takes home a division one prize of $3,000,000.
The winning entry was not registered to a Players Club Card so NSW Lotteries officials have no way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news and are eagerly waiting for the ticketholder to make contact to claim their prize.
Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this afternoon to confirm his win, the man admitted the winning ticket had been in his wallet the whole time.
He said he was shocked, excited and emotional at the life-changing news he became a multi-millionaire a week ago.
“Well, what do I say! I’m pretty teary, yeah. We’re a bit excited!” he exclaimed.
“My wife has registered tickets but on quite a few occasions I go to the shops and buy tickets myself and stick them in my wallet. And sometimes they remain there for some time!
“I thought I had a chance of winning like everybody else but it’s still a shock.”
The happy winner explained he had a large family and looked forward to celebrating his good fortune with his loved ones.
“We’ll have to have a think about what we’ll do with the prize – probably share it with the kids,” he said.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his 50-game QuickPick winning entry was purchased at Camden Newsagency, 180 Argyle Street, Camden.
Camden Newsagency staff member Tayla Ditton said the unclaimed win had been on everyone’s mind.
“Word travels fast around town. Everyone has been coming in and asking if anyone has claimed the $3 million yet,” she said.
“We wish the winner all the very best with their prize.”

The six winning numbers in Powerball draw 1134 on Thursday 8 February 2018 were 33, 7, 12, 38, 23 and 10, while the all-important Powerball number was 16.
Throughout Australia, there two division one winning entries – one each from New South Wales and Queensland.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 277 so far this financial year, including 91 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
