$6 million Powerball win a "shock to the system" for Brisbane Northsider
A Brisbane northside retiree has declared that winning the entire $6 million division one prize in last night’s Powerball draw a ‘shock to the system’.
The happy winner held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Powerball draw 1102 on Thursday 29 June 2017.
Speaking to a Golden Casket official first thing this morning, the man confessed had been eagerly waiting for the phone call to confirm his win since he realised he had won last night.
“I read my ticket 45 times and came up with the same result each time – I’ve won!” the man exclaimed.
“Over 30 years or so of playing the lotto, I know what time the draw is on at and I was sitting in the chair watching TV for the numbers.
“After I read my ticket many times, I got my wife to check the ticket and it was there in black and white ‘you’ve got it!’ she said.
“I’ve been waiting for the call! I’ve been waiting every night for years for the call!” the man chuckled.
Brisbane’s newest multi-millionare admitted he knew exactly what he was going to do with his win.
“Listen mate, I’ll have it spent by tonight!” he laughed.
“I’ve always said that if anyone asked me what I’ll do with the money I’d tell them I will bloody well spend it!”
The man plans use his winnings to fulfill a life-long dream of owning his own home and visiting England.
“We are going to buy ourselves a new house and go on a little trip,” he said.
“Many years ago I went to London and I thought one day I’d love to go back there and now I can do it in style!”
The retired man won the entire $6 million prize pool in last night’s Powerball draw with an 18-game marked entry.
“I’ve been using those numbers for about two years now,” he explained.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry from Nextra Toombul News & Megabooks, Shop 14-17, Toombul Shopping Town, 1015 Sandgate Road, Toombul on Brisbane’s northside.
Shane Griffin is the owner of Nextra Toombul News & Megabooks and was over-the-moon that his outlet had sold its fifth division one winning entry in a decade.
“It’s very exciting to know that one of our customers is now a multi-millionaire!” he exclaimed.
“To have sold another multi-million dollar winning ticket for this store is incredible for the area and we’ve decorated the store to celebrate the win!
“We are so happy for the winner and wish him all the best with his winnings.”
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1102 on Thursday 29 June 2017 were 15, 5, 2, 9, 12 and 3, while the all-important Powerball was 9.
