Having often fantasised about telling his family he’d won the lottery, a Batemans Bay man is today happily making that dream a reality after winning $2.5 million in Saturday Lotto.

The South Coast resident held one of the eight division one winning entries nationally in the weekend’s Saturday Lotto Superdraw draw 4023 on Saturday 15 February 2020. Each entry took home a division one prize of $2,500,000.

This morning, we contacted the man, who had no idea he’d started the week a multi-millionaire.

“Good heavens!” he eventually managed.

“I’m really shocked. I’m trying to write this down. My god.

“I am absolutely shocked!

“This is incredible. I am so grateful.

“I had absolutely no idea whatsoever!

“I’ve dreamt about winning the lottery before and calling my family to tell them and now I can do that! I’m going to do that right now.

“Two and a half million dollars? I can’t get over that!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his life-changing windfall, the South Coast resident said it had arrived at the perfect time after a tough start to 2020.

“At the beginning of the year, the bushfires tore through the region,” he explained.

“We didn’t personally lose our home but homes around us were destroyed and we were evacuated to the beach. The town was black and red. It was frightening.

“This couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I’ll be able to take my wife on a really nice holiday.

“Ironically, we were just recently talking about going to Europe.

“And my wife will also be able to stop working!

“I’m going to tell her that we’re going out for dinner tonight and I’ll break the news to her then.

“Everything is coming together very nicely. It’s great!”

The overwhelmed winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning marked 50-game entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
