Cairns man set for an early retirement after Gold Lotto division one win
A Cairns man is planning to retire half a decade earlier than he’d ever dreamt after checking his Saturday Gold Lotto entry to discover he held the division one winning numbers.
The Queenslander held one of the nine division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3969 on Saturday 3 August 2019, with each entry taking home a division one prize of $446,898.09.
Confirming his win with us this morning, the man revealed he’d been dreaming of this day.
“Thank you very much,” he beamed.
“That’s brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
“I check my Saturday Gold Lotto ticket every week after the draw and on Saturday night I saw I had all the winning numbers!
“Then I double checked my entry on the app and I couldn’t believe it! I went blank. I was shocked.
“I’ve played for years always hoping one day I would win and on Saturday that happened.”
It didn’t take long for the Far North Queensland resident to share exactly how he planned to use his life-changing prize.
“I’m going to retire,” he declared.
“I’m going to be able to retire about five years earlier than I had planned and I’m going to have a fantastic retirement!
“It’s a great feeling!”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry at Edmonton LPO, Shop 11B Piccones Shopping Village, 113 Bruce Highway, Edmonton.
Edmonton LPO owner Ersilia Phipps said it was the first time the outlet had sold a division one winning entry.
“I was filled with so much joy and excitement when I discovered we’d sold this life-changing prize,” she said.
“It’s so great to know one of our local customers has had a massive win.
