A Capalaba retiree says she now truly understands the meaning of the phrase ‘mind boggling’ after being told she was holding a Gold Lotto ticket worth almost $1 million.

The south-east Queenslander held one of the six division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4149 on Saturday 24 April 2021. She pockets a division one prize worth $990,996.20.

When we confirmed the life-changing news with the Redland City resident this morning, she suddenly found herself lost for words.

“Thank you!” she eventually managed.

“I can’t quite take that in. I feel as if I need to sit down.

“Nine hundred and ninety thousand dollars? Wow. That’s wonderful. That’s amazing!

“I feel so overwhelmed. I’m speechless. Wow.

“I am amazed. I feel so lucky.

“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

“This is mind boggling. I now know what mind boggling means!”

When asked what she might do when almost $1 million hits her bank account, the flabbergasted winner explained she’d first need some time to think.

“I’m still struggling to believe this,” she laughed.

“I will be sharing it with my family and I’ll be able to get myself into a retirement home.

“That’s all I think of at the moment. I am overwhelmed. It’s just wonderful. It’s amazing!”

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning marked 12-game entry at Nextra Capalaba Park News, Shop 133, Capalaba Park Shopping Centre, Cnr Mt Cotton Road & Redland Bay Road, Capalaba.

Nextra Capalaba Park News manager Gail Kawecki said she was excited to hear the prize had gone to a local.

“I am so glad to hear that this amazing prize has gone to a local customer of ours,” she said.

“It’s always a relief to know it has been claimed.

“We sold a Saturday Gold Lotto division one winning entry in 2017 which has never been claimed.

“We always hold out hope that this winner will come forward but in the meantime, congratulations to our latest winner!”
