When a Darwin man first saw he’d won $1.3 million in TattsLotto he was so shocked he dismissed it as a hoax.

The Northern Territory player held one of the five division one winning entries in TattsLotto draw 4183, drawn Saturday 21 August 2021 – each pocketed a $1,304,946.92 prize.

Speaking with us this morning, the happy man relayed how he discovered he was now a millionaire.

“Usually, I get an email straight after the draw that tells me how close I am to winning division one,” he explained.

“But this time, I didn’t, so when I woke up on Sunday morning, I logged into The Lott app and I saw I had all six numbers.

“I thought ‘well, that’s strange’ and then I saw the prize amount, and I thought it must be some kind of hoax.

“I was holding my breath the whole time! I had to remember to breathe!

“I told my wife, and she didn’t believe me. She just kept saying, ‘no, it can’t be! It’s got to be a hoax’.

“But there were a lot of tears because we started to think that it might be true.

“It still hasn’t really sunk in, and I don’t think it will until I actually see the money in my bank account, but if it’s true, it’s incredible! It’s life-changing.”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his windfall, the overwhelmed winner said he was still struggling to comprehend his million-dollar news.

“God, it’s quite hard to think about what to do with the prize when you still don’t really believe it. But we will definitely pay off the mortgage,” he clarified.

“And we are getting close to retirement, so we’d like to use it to enjoy our retirement.

“But we want to go and talk to a financial planner and make it work and grow for us.”

His winning System 9 entry was purchased at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
