A Townsville woman awoke on Sunday morning to her husband yelling they’d won division one after he checked the Gold Lotto results in the paper and immediately recognised the numbers.

The North Queenslanders held one of the nine division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4123, drawn Saturday 23 January 2021. Each division one winning entry scored $678,308.17.

Confirming their win with us this morning, the couple explained they’d been playing the same numbers for three decades.

“Thank you, thank you,” the winning man said.

“Would you believe what happened? I got the newspaper delivered on Sunday morning and the first thing I did was check the Saturday Gold Lotto numbers.

“We’ve played the same numbers for 30 years, birthdays and bits and pieces, so I recognised them in the paper straight away.

“I woke my wife up to say ‘we’ve won division one!’.

“After so many years of trying, something happened on Saturday night and our numbers came up.
“It is magical! We just can’t believe our numbers have been drawn.

“It’s incredible!

“We’re going to pay off the mortgage and a few other things,” he explained.

“And of course we will share the rest with our family.

“It’s wonderful!”

The regular players, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Upper Ross Newsagency, 5/1225 Riverway Drive, Rasmussen.

Upper Ross Newsagency owner Peter Wales said it was fantastic news for the winner and the community.

“It’s so great to have some positive news in the region,” he said.

“We’ve only had the outlet for four months so this is the first time we’ve sold a division one winning entry.

“Congratulations to them! May this win bring them plenty of happiness!”
