A St Agnes man is still reeling from the shock of returning home from holiday and discovering he is $1.4 million richer after scoring division one in the weekend’s Saturday X Lotto draw.

The happy winner held one of the seven division one winning entries nationally in Saturday X Lotto draw 4119, drawn Saturday 9 January 2021. Each entry takes home a division one prize worth $1,428,571.43.

Sharing his excitement with us this morning, the stunned winner recounted the moment he discovered he’d scored division one.

“We’ve been away in Yorketown, and we bought our ticket over there,” he explained.

“I didn’t think to check it until I got home on Sunday after our holiday.

“I scanned the ticket on the app and saw that I had won. I didn’t expect it! It came straight out of the blue!

“It was a lovely surprise, though!

“We called the kids and told them. They were so happy for us. It’s not every day their mum and dad win division one!

“We’ve been playing for about 40 years, I reckon. Every week we buy a ticket.

“We always buy a ticket when we visit Yorketown though because about 30 years ago, that’s where we bought the ticket that gave us our biggest win.

“We only had five numbers that time, but we’ve always thought Yorketown was our lucky spot.

“It took us another 30 years to get the sixth number but we got there!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy life as a newly-minted millionaire, the stoked bloke said he wouldn’t believe he had really won until he saw the money in his bank account.

“We’re going to have to sit down and have a good long think about it,” he explained.

“It’s hard to plan for something that isn’t your bank account yet. I’ll consider it ours once I see it in there.

“It’s a lot to take in at the moment, but we’ll definitely be giving some to our kids to set them up.

“Otherwise, we will just have to think about what to do with the rest when it all sinks in.”

The winning entry was purchased at Yorketown Newsagency, 7 Edithburgh Road, Yorketown.

Yorketown Newsagency owner Duncan Algie said he was stunned to discover his outlet had sold a division one winning entry.

“You hope that one day you will sell a winning ticket to a customer, and now we have!” he exclaimed.

“I’m sure the win will be the talk of the town and area. We have decorated the shop with balloons and signs, so everyone knows we’ve sold a division one winning entry.

“Our customers will be full of excitement and very happy for us! I’m sure they will be hoping they could be holding the next big ticket we sell at our lucky shop.

“We’ve been lottery agents for 23 years. The last division one win we sold was years ago now, so it’s great to have had another win!

“Congratulations to our winners! We wish them all the best in their future and hope the win brings happiness to their life.

“We are very excited for them. May it bring them lots of joy and fun times!”
