Mystery Sydney Set for Life winner found: Kogarah dad ready for exciting life changes
A Kogarah family man in his 40s has come forward to claim the Set for Life 1st Prize he won more than two months ago, declaring he’s ready to make some exciting life changes with his ongoing prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
The winning entry for Set for Life draw 565 on Tuesday 21 February 2017 was bought from St George Tobacconist, 15 Railway Parade, Kogarah, but the entry was unregistered so NSW Lotteries officials had no way to contact the mystery winner.
He was the seventh Set for Life winner in New South Wales since the game was launched in August 2015.
He also joins 19 other national winners who are already enjoying their monthly instalments of the 20-year Set for Life windfall.
The winning man confessed he’d been carrying around the winning ticket in his wallet for the past 10 weeks, and only decided to check it last week.
“I started to get a funny feeling that I might have won but didn’t want to check the ticket in case it wasn’t true!” he explained.
“I’d seen the sign go up in the shop and I knew I’d purchased the ticket around that time. I just held off as I thought it was very unlikely it was going to happen to me.
“But I had it in my wallet and it dropped out in the supermarket the other day so thought I better check it before I lost it!”
The happy winner said that the win would help him and his family make exciting life changes.
“It’s fantastic! It will definitely set us up for life. It will allow a lot of changes,” he said.
“I’ve got children so this will allow us to be able to give them more, for us to spend more time with them, and for us not work as much.
“It just changes virtually everything. It’s not something you expect to have. You dream about it but you don’t expect it to happen!”
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his First Prize winning entry in Set for Life draw 565 on Tuesday 21 February 2017 at St George Tobacconist, 15 Railway Parade, Kogarah.
St George Tobacconist owner Minh Tran said the outlet was happy the two-month mystery surrounding the winner’s whereabouts had been solved.
“We’ve had a lot of customers who have visited the outlet during the past few months to check their Set for Life tickets,” she said.
“We’ve had the sign up and some balloons to try and grab people’s attention and hopefully remind the winner to check their ticket.
“A lot more people are also buying Set for Life tickets since they know a First Prize winning ticket was sold here.”
