Set for Life wins shine on Queensland: Mackay man awakes to winning news!
A down-to-earth Mackay man was awoken this morning by the life-changing phone call that he had won the First Prize in Set for Life and would receive $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.
A call from a Golden Casket official stirred the man from his slumber and confirmed he was the only First Prize winner across Australia in Set for Life draw 753 on Monday 28 August 2017.
The Mackay win confirms Queensland as this year’s current Set for Life hotspot. During the past two months alone there have been four Set for Life First Prize winners from Queensland.
It’s also the second Queensland Set for Life First Prize win in two days – on Sunday night a Townsville mother won the coveted prize. Other recent winners include an Emerald man in his 40s and a newly-retired Browns Plains couple.
“Alright! Wow! I just got out of bed!” the Mackay man exclaimed when his win was confirmed.
“I’ve been playing Set for Life since just after it started! I’ve got two recorded sets I play all the time.
“It’s not a bad way to start the day! I just hope the rest of the day is as good as this!”
Despite being in line for $20,000 a month for the next 20 years, the down-to-earth man said he’d continue to work, but the Set for Life windfall would help expedite his retirement plans.
“I’m pretty laid back mate. I’ll wait until I get my first payment. It won’t be real until I see it in my account,” he said.
“It means I’ll be able to retire sooner. I can become a 26er. There’s 52 weeks in a year and I’m going to become a 26er. I’m going to spend half the year here and half overseas!”
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning marked 2-Set entry from newsXpress Sarina, 47 Broad Street, Sarina.
newsXpress Sarina owner Mark Petersen said the outlet was thrilled one of its customers had become the latest Set for Life First Prize winner.
“We’ve sold tickets that have won at least five big prizes in the last 16 years since we’ve owned the outlet, but it’s been about four years since our last one so we were definitely overdue!” he exclaimed.
“The best way to describe it is that it is very satisfying to know we sold a Set for Life entry that has changed one of our customer’s lives. It’s something we’re trying to do all day, every day and we did it!”
Across the country, the Mackay winner held the only entry that won First Prize in Set for Life draw 753 on Monday 28 August 2017, which offers a guaranteed First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years for up to four winners in each draw.
The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 753 were 35, 30, 23, 31, 34, 32, 10 and 4, with the bonus numbers 19 and 14.
Last financial year, there were six Set for Life winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who will receive $28.8 million during the next 20 years.
A Set for Life draw is conducted every night of the week, 365 days each year, and players can start their seven-day Set for Life entry on any day of the week.
To win the First Prize in Set for Life, players must correctly choose the 8 winning numbers drawn from 37. Additional smaller divisional prizes can be won from 2nd Prize to 8th Prize by selecting a combination of the 8 winning numbers and 2 bonus numbers drawn.
