A man from a town in the Latrobe Valley was in total shock when a Tatts official phoned him on Monday morning to break the news that his entry in Set for Life had won First Prize.
The astonished man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said life was looking a lot easier for him and his family now that he will have $20,000 coming in each and every month for 20 years.
“Fair dinkum! Wow, wow, wow, WOW!” the man exclaimed.
“You always think how amazing it would be to win, but you never think it will happen to you!
“It’s going to make our lives so much easier! We’re fairly settled ourselves but now we will be able to help our children and get them out of trouble. It also means that we will be able to support charities to help cancer research which means a lot to our family.
“I’m a keen hobby fisherman so whenever I get the chance and the weather is good, I’m out in my boat! Now I’ll have a lot less worries and a lot more time to spend fishing!
“We were saving up for a little holiday but now we can get going on planning a real far-away adventure! One we’ve always dreamed of taking is a trip to Europe and going on a cruise through Budapest."
The man was so caught up in the moment that he had forgotten to share the exciting news with his wife.
“Wait a minute, can you tell my wife?” the man asked before handing the phone over to her.
“Wait what? I can’t believe it! My blood pressure has just gone through the roof!” she exclaimed.
“I take everything with a grain of salt, so I just need a minute to pull myself together!” she laughed.
The winning 4-SET Quick SET was purchased from Churchill Newsagency & Lotto, Shop 2, Georgina Place, Hazelwood Village in Churchill.

Throughout Australia, it was the only entry that won a First Prize in Friday night’s Set for Life draw 197, which offers a guaranteed First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years for up to four winners in each draw.
The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 197 on Friday 19 February 2016 were 24, 8, 37, 4, 9, 5, 2 and 6, with the Bonus Numbers 12 and 33.

A man from far north-central Victoria is living the dream after realising his numbers came up in Saturday night’s draw and he had won First Prize in Set for Life - $20,000 each and every month for 20 years!
The genuine salt-of-the-earth man said he was blown away when he discovered his good turn of fortune.
“I was out in the yard gardening early on Sunday morning when I thought, ‘Gee, there’s got to be an easier way!’, so I checked my Set for Life ticket and wouldn’t you believe it – BINGO I’d won First Prize!” the man exclaimed.
“I raced inside and woke up my wife, yelling ‘Darling, we’re Set for Life, we’re Set for Life!’
“It’s absolutely wonderful! You just don’t know how much it means to our family after enduring some hardship over the years.
“This is it! I can retire now!
“I’ll tell you it’s a far better way to get the prize over time each month like this. I can assure you that we will keep our feet firmly on the ground; we won’t become yuppies!” he laughed.
The winning man said he had been playing Set for Life with randomly generated numbers for a couple of months but decided to try his luck with some special family birthday numbers.
“My wife and I picked out our special numbers together, so she can get some credit for that!” he laughed.
The happy couple said they’ve already made some plans for their first instalments of $20,000!
“We’ve got the first lot planned! We’re going to hire a house boat to take a trip down the Murray River with our family to celebrate!” he exclaimed.
“I’ll also be able to expand my garden as I’m a bit of a green-thumb!
“We can also take a well-deserved holiday for the first time in 45 years! We’ll head overseas but we’d also love to travel around Australia!”
The man purchased his winning marked 4-SET entry was purchased from Irymple Post, Newsagency and TattsLotto, Shop 1, 2109 Fifteenth Street in Irymple.
Jo Brimsmead is the co-owner of Irymple Post, Newsagency and TattsLotto and said the win would go down in the shop’s history books.
“We’ve had the shop for five and a half years, but this is our first top prize in a draw lottery game!” she exclaimed.
“How wonderful that our first was in the newest lottery game Set for Life, and the prize will just keep on giving to our winning customer for the next 20 years!
“Now we’ve sold our first, I think the drought has been broken and we’ll continue to make more of our customers very happy!”
