In case you missed it: Our favourite surprise winning moments from the week
A win really can land anytime and anywhere! This week we’ve heard from some thrilled Aussies who enjoyed receiving some unexpected winning news that turned their week around.
Check out some of our favourites below!
Not your average Wednesday: Oz Lotto winner scores a massive $16.9 million prize
A Paramatta man had a Wednesday morning unlike any other this week when he discovered he’d won almost $17 million in the previous night’s Oz Lotto draw.
“I checked my ticket at the newsagency and I was told they couldn’t pay out the prize,” he said.
“That’s when we realised I was last night’s winner. I went blank. I couldn’t think at all. It’s a blessing from the heavens above!”
No doubt becoming an overnight multi-millionaire has shaken up whatever plans he had laid out for the rest of the week— or even for the rest of the year!
Trip to the dentist gives Keperra man a million-dollar winning grin!
Many of us would agree that starting your week with a trip to the dentist for a tooth extraction is less than ideal. But a Kepeera man sure had something to smile about after his recent dentist visit!
It was his determination to cheer himself up after getting his tooth pulled out that led the Queensland player to buy his winning Monday Gold Lotto ticket and score himself an incredible $1 million!
“It’s just magical. Absolutely magical,” he said.
“I’m pinching myself. It’s so hard to believe this is true.”
It’s made us think maybe we should book in for our six-month dentist check-up!
Highland News and Lotto on a high after selling back to back division one winning tickets!
While a lottery win can land anywhere, this local north Melbourne outlet was excited to discover they had helped Victorian players land a win not once, but twice in recent weeks!
Last week the store sold two winning syndicate shares in the Saturday Lotto Superdraw, and this week, discovered they had sold 23 Craigieburn warehouse workers their winning Saturday Lotto division one entry.
Highlands News & Lotto manager Kevin Ung said he was celebrating his outlet's winning streak.
“I can’t believe we sold two division one winning entries two Saturdays in a row! How good is that?!” he exclaimed.
“We’ll be celebrating in-store with all my customers. All of my customers are very loyal, and I feel privileged to help people achieve their dreams of winning division one.”
Beautiful Darwin day made even more beautiful for winning retiree
We were thrilled to deliver some incredible news to a Darwin retiree this week. The man had gone in-store to check his TattsLotto ticket and was bracing himself for a surprise when we spoke to him on the phone a moment later.
“I’m at the outlet. I’m sitting down, and me and the staff here are waiting to hear what you’ve got to tell me. I’m ready for some good news!” he laughed.
After telling him he was now $410,000 richer, the humble man was completely overjoyed!
“You’re joking! How amazing!” he exclaimed.
“It’s a beautiful day here in Darwin and now it’s been made even more beautiful by this news!”
Powerball turns 24!
To really end the week on a high, this weekend we’re celebrating 24 years of Powerball in Australia!
It was 23 May 1996 when the course of Australian lottery history was changed forever as a brand-new Thursday night draw was introduced across the country.
At a time when the world was pushing new limits, new technologies, and new opportunities, Powerball launched onto the scene giving Aussies the chance to play by their own rules.
Twenty-four years and 1,252 draws later, hundreds of millions of dollars in prize money has been won, records have been smashed, and new multi-millionaires made.
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Australia’s biggest jackpotting game — and for our future winners!
