Merry Christmas from the Lott
2019 has been a massive year for Australian lotteries.
Oz Lotto soared to $80 million for the first time since 2012; Lucky Lotteries defied all expectations with an unprecedented jackpot roll reaching over $96 million; and Powerball skyrocketed to a massive $150 million— the biggest jackpot ever offered in Australian lottery history.
And of course, big jackpots meant big wins! We set new records for both the biggest, and second-biggest individual winners the country has ever seen. Meanwhile Set for Life finishes the year with 53 Aussies enjoying that incredible First Prize of $20,000 a month for twenty years, and Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday Lotto created more than 120 new millionaires across the Lott’s jurisdictions. Instant Scratch-Its players have also enjoyed more than 100 top prizes with potentially more sitting under Christmas trees across the nation.*
Although we love to celebrate and take stock of the numbers and stats, at the end of the year it’s the moments connecting us to people all across the country that stand out.
From the hardworking tradie who answered his winning call while cleaning his fish pond, the Melbourne man who was in disbelief that he held two division one winning entries, and the generous grandmother who declared her win would be shared with her family and charity — sharing in the delight of Aussie winners makes every day feel like the most wonderful time of the year.
We’ve also seen incredible work take place in our communities throughout 2019. In times of hardship, the resilience of Australians shines through and we’re proud to have contributed over $1.4 billion back to important health, education, and disaster relief initiatives.
More than ever, we see the joy that comes from believing in what’s possible and making dreams come true and there’s something about the festive season that heightens this. It’s a time for giving and sharing, for being with loved ones, and for finding opportunities to smile a little easier and celebrate a little more.
Whether you’re travelling, catching up with friends and family, or just taking a moment to press pause, we wish you a safe and happy Christmas and a winning New Year!
