Orange Sky eyes further support for the Darwin community thanks to a $90,000 donation
First founded by two twenty-year-old mates Lucas Patchett and Nic Marchesi in 2014, Orange Sky Australia is the world’s first free mobile laundry and shower service. From its humble beginnings supporting people experiencing homelessness or hardship, Orange Sky has grown into a powerful driver for connection and non-judgemental conversation, providing a safe space for people who often feel isolated and disconnected from their community.
It’s not just the bright orange vans with laundry and shower services on board that benefit the communities in which they operate in; it's also the safe and welcoming feeling of sitting down on their orange chairs to have a genuine chat and connect with the volunteers, which has seen Orange Sky evolve into a true champion for our communities.
In 2018, Orange Sky kicked up the dust, taking their orange vans across the red dirt of northern Australia to extend their free service into Darwin. Orange Sky has a true commitment to the wellbeing of the communities in which it operates, and The Lott by Tatts NT are thrilled to make a $90,000 donation to support the ongoing operations of Orange Sky’s Darwin service.
The donation will provide invaluable support to Orange Sky’s hybrid van operating in Darwin, offering the community free access to clean clothes, safe hot showers, and genuine non-judgemental conversation.
The Lott by Tatts NT Partnerships Manager, Liz McPherson, said the donation is an incredible opportunity to support positive outcomes in Northern Territory communities.
“It’s not only the fresh clothes and showers that Orange Sky provides but it’s also their non-judgemental conversations that really does change the course of someone’s day,” she said.
“This donation to Orange Sky Australia for their service within Darwin will allow for more people in need to access a regular laundry and shower service.”
Orange Sky Australia’s Co–Founder and CEO, Lucas Patchett said they are thrilled to partner with The Lott by Tatts NT to further support Orange Sky’s Darwin service.
"We know people are doing it really tough right now. With the rise in cost of living and the housing crisis, our services have never been busier, so it's never been a more important time to be there to support those doing it tough.”
"We’re incredibly grateful for The Lott by Tatts NT coming on board to help our mission. With their support, we can continue to provide our essential services of clean laundry, safe hot showers, and positive connection to our Darwin friends.”
"We value building strong connections with local communities, and through this support, Orange Sky will be able to reach more people and families who need a helping hand, or even just a friendly face to chat too.”
