One Sunshine Coast family received a surprise they would never forget this week when a weekday play-date unexpectedly came with a $10,000 cheque to help pay for expensive medical treatments.

We’re no stranger to delivering good news but it was particularly special to see single mum Charlotte and her five-year-old son Michael discover the Lott was giving them $10,000 as part of Channel 9’s Knock of Cash on The Today Show.

The money will go a long way in helping the Queensland family while Michael continues treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Michael was diagnosed with the aggressive cancer in July this year, just days after his fifth birthday. His mum Charlotte knew the diagnosis would turn their lives upside down and has made incredible sacrifices to keep the family afloat while Michael braved intensive ongoing medical procedures to fight the disease.

Michael’s daycare — Little Village Early Learning, Buderim — nominated the family to receive the Knock of Cash and we are proud to partner with Channel 9 to deliver much-needed funds to a deserving family.

Charlotte said she has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the community.

“I can’t believe it. It blows me away that people care this much and will go above and beyond for others,” she said.

“It brings life, love and hope into our lives, and really makes you realise there are amazing people out there.

“I never imagined something like this would happen to us.”

While the $10,000 will help with the family’s expenses, Charlotte also explained it will give them room to bring some joy into their lives.

“It will be wonderful to give Michael something to look forward to— something he can get excited about. He’s been wanting to go to Tasmania to see extended family so now we can look at planning a little getaway for him.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has been so kind and supportive. I still can’t believe this has happened.”

We are committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate and have partnered with Channel 9 to surprise inspiring Aussie families over the coming weeks.
