Play For Purpose is a not-for-profit raffle helping helps hundreds of great Australian causes supercharge their fundraising. As part of its support of community organisations, The Lott provides resources and financial support to every Play For Purpose raffle.

Australians are known for a lot of things: being friendly and laidback, having a laugh, and our love of sport and the great outdoors.

But one of the most common traits synonymous with Australians is giving someone a fair go.

From providing a laptop to help with schoolwork through to building an all-abilities playground, Variety – the Children’s Charity helped 8,769 children in Victoria last year alone with $1,762,450 in grants.

Variety – the Children’s Charity spokesperson Mandy Burns said the organisation stepped in when a disadvantaged or special needs child needed something to improve their life.

“We are proud to support tens of thousands of families across Victoria each year by providing much-needed equipment that they may not be able to get access to elsewhere,” she explained.

“From the immediate needs of providing a laptop to a child so they can complete remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic to building a large-scale all-abilities playground in regional Victoria, our umbrella opens far and wide to help as many people as we can."

It’s not just individual children that benefit from the charity’s good work, with organisations and schools also able to apply for grants to deliver educational resources, technology and scholarships.

The charity also provides education programs to empower children and stages special kids events that bring a welcome smile to families’ faces.

“Unfortunately much of our fundraising is done at large-scale events which have been postponed for this year, meaning our partnership with Play for Purpose is more important than ever,” Ms Burns added.

“The Play for Purpose platform is always fundraising and always accessible for our donors which means even though we can’t fundraise in person, we can continue to raise money for those in need. We have raised over $11,000 from ticket sales alone”.

“The funds raised through our Play for Purpose platform, have contributed to our all-abilities playgrounds and our Bikes for Kids campaign, which gives a simple gift of a brand new bicycle and helmet to kids from low socio economic backgrounds. By gifting them a bike, they get their first taste of freedom and independence.”
