Caringbah couple start house shopping with Saturday Lotto loot

A Caringbah couple has confessed they initially thought they’d only won a fraction of their $1.7 million Saturday Lotto prize.

“When I first looked at the ticket, I thought it was $171,000, not $1.7 million! Then I looked again at the comas and thought, ‘is that for me?’,” the winning husband laughed.

“Then I just went blank. It’s just beautiful.

“We’ve been trying to buy a house for us and the kids like everyone else, but now the worries of money have been lifted.

“It’s truly changed our lives. You’ve basically won a house! It’s a paid-off house.

“We’ve already started looking online at what’s around.

The winning entry was purchased at Caringbah Village Newsagency, Shop 6, Caringbah Shopping Village, 58 President Avenue, Caringbah.

Caringbah Village Newsagency owner Steve Sutton said he was thrilled to help deliver a Christmas surprise to one of his customers.

“We were thrilled that this has also happened so close to Christmas and the holiday period, and that the lucky winner had such a great Christmas surprise and end to 2023,” he said.

“We’ve sold about 20 division one winning tickets over the 25 years I’ve owned the store. The last time was in March 2018 so it’s great to have another one.

“Our customers will be over the moon - being a small family-owned business, we have great ongoing relationships with some of our loyal customers who have been with us for over 25 years.

“We wish our latest winner all the very best and a big congratulations!”
