This Sunday is World Kindness Day – an international day to recognise and promote the importance of being kind.

The day aims to celebrate good deeds in the community, inspire acts of friendliness, generosity and consideration, and focus on the power of positivity.

Being kind should be the norm every day of the week, but World Kindness Day is a chance to stop, think and make that extra effort mindfully.

Did you know there’s a science behind kindness?

Not only does practicing kindness towards others elevate oxytocin and dopamine levels, it boosts your immune system - allowing you to destress and remove negativity to focus on physical, emotional and mental health, which can increase self-acceptance, patience and integrity. Kindness makes people feel good!

A not-for-profit dedicated to promoting kindness is the Kindness Factory.

The Kindness Factory is on a mission to inspire everyone to be kind, have fun, stay connected, reach out for help, exercise resilience, and treat others with dignity and respect.

The organisation does this by funding valuable research and delivering educational programs that provide practical, evidence-based, positive mental health strategies to schools, universities and communities through the Kindness Curriculum.

The Kindness Factory helps people to understand the importance of kindness and its ability to drive sustainable change.

One of the best things about the Kindness Factory is the Kindness Log, where people log #onesmallact of kindness. Since 2015 the organisation has already clocked up over 4.2 million acts– that’s pretty impressive!

From paying for coffee for palliative care nurses at a hospital to leaving a sweet note on someone’s car windscreen, you’ll see that a small act of kindness can have a significant impact.

In 2021 we made our first donation to the Kindness Factory, and today we’re proud to announce another $50,000 donation.

Chief Executive Officer Kath Koschel said the $50,000 donation would help spread the Kindness Curriculum.

“At Kindness factory, we’re on a mission to make the world a kinder place, focusing predominantly on the community and our school programs,” she said.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of The Lott, we are doing this every day.

“The money donated will allow us to make a larger step in reaching more people with kindness programmes in schools and the broader community.”

The Lott’s Partnerships Manager Ally Ramsamy said she was delighted to continue the ongoing relationship with such an important organisation.

“Our partnership with the Kindness Factory has helped us learn more about the importance of kindness and its important role in making the world a better place,” she said.

“And we hope with this donation and the organisation’s incredible work; others will see that too."
