Play For Purpose is a not-for-profit raffle helping hundreds of great Australian causes supercharge their fundraising. As part of its support of community organisations, The Lott provides resources and financial support to every Play For Purpose raffle.

A Red Hill mum had two good things to celebrate in one weekend – her birthday and winning the 1st Prize worth $250,000 in the latest Play For Purpose raffle. 

The Queenslander’s prize includes a Volkswagen California Camper worth $117,924, $125,000 in cashable gold and $7,076 in vouchers from Australia’s leading retailers. 

Each Play For Purpose ticket gives players the chance to win hundreds of prizes, all while supporting an Australian charitable cause of their choice. 

The winning woman, who purchased her ticket in support of Samuel Johnson’s cancer charity Love Your Sister, was having breakfast with her husband when she got the call informing her she'd won. 

“Oh my goodness! This is amazing!” she cried happily. 

“You’ve made my day, my week, my year! 

“This is honestly incredible. I am over the moon! I am so completely happy right now. 

“My husband is here now too, and he’s asking what’s wrong, so I’ve just written that we’d won on a piece of paper. Can you hear him cheering in the background? We’re in tears! 

“And it’s my birthday this weekend too! What an amazing week! 

“I only bought a ticket yesterday afternoon because I saw a Facebook Post on Love Your Sister encouraging people to buy tickets to support their charity. 

“So, if I didn’t see that post, I wouldn’t have won. They’ve changed my life! 

“I really, really love Love Your Sister. I’ve followed Samuel and Connie’s story from the beginning, and it really touches my heart. Ever since then, I have always supported Love Your Sister. 

“Watching their journey was incredibly emotional, especially because I am a big family person. 

“I also really love buying tickets into Play For Purpose because 50% goes to the charity, so it makes me feel like I am doing something good for the community. 

“It’s nice to be able to directly support a charity and I’m so happy they’ll receive a bonus $5,000 because of that.” 

Through Play For Purpose, Love Your Sister fundraised over $850,000 since 2019. During this time, over 11,000 Love Your Sister “Villagers” have been raffle winners, taking a share of over $1.14 million in prizes.

As the latest Love Your Sister 'Villager' to score the major raffle prize, the winning Brisbane woman said she'd need some time to let the news sink in, but had a few ideas for how she'd enjoy her prize. 

“We live in a tiny home, so we are looking to renovate it so it’s big enough for our whole family. This will be a huge help with that,” she explained. 

“When I was looking at the prizes, I was thinking how useful the vouchers would be to win because we need some new furniture too. How good is that?! 

“I am actually pregnant right now with my second baby, and so this will make a big difference to our lives. 

“We are going out for my birthday this weekend, but now it’ll be double celebrations! We might have to upgrade from our pizza plans and do something a bit more special.” 

Love Your Sister’s Samuel Johnson said that when he learnt one of his supporters had won the prize, he thought ‘you little ripper!’. 

“The Play For Purpose raffle has been a ray of light for us. It’s given people hope and allowed them to dream during the doldrums of COVID, which has been really important. And sometimes they even get rich!” he laughed.

“We are so thrilled for all of the winners and thank you all for joining us in the fight to vanquish cancer." 

Other major prize-winners were from across Australia, including Red Hill, Toowoomba, Mornington, Queanbeyan, Runcorn and Sunnybank Hills who won second, third, fourth and fifth prize packages in support of Starlight, Children’s Hospital Foundation, Rural Aid and Breast Cancer Network Australia.
