A retired man from Kew has confessed to feeling ‘a bit dazed’ after discovering he was the Powerball winner Tatts officials had been
searching for during the past five days.

The stunned winner won the entire division one prize pool of $6 million in Powerball draw 1142 drawn on Thursday 4 April 2018 but despite being a registered entry, Tatts officials had been unable to confirm the prize until the winner came forward.

Speaking with a Tatts official this morning to confirm the $6 million Powerball win the happy winner revealed he had no idea about his new multi-millionaire status until he checked his ticket.

“It feels great! They tried to tell me I had won at the shop but I walked out of there a bit dazed so it’s great to hear it confirmed
again!” the winner laughed.

“I went into the outlet to buy some entries for this week and when I scanned my card they told me I had won.

“I was expecting to win a smaller amount – around $20 – but it wasn’t until they were shaking my hand and telling me I had won the whole thing that I realised.”

When asked how the Kew local planned to spend his Powerball windfall he admitted it was too soon for him to decide.

“I’ll try not to spend it all at once that’s for sure!” he said.

“It’s a bit early to tell what we’ll do with it. I’ve just recently retired so I think a significant holiday somewhere will be on the cards.

“I won’t be rushing to the travel agent that quickly though – I just need to let it sink in.”

The regular player revealed he had been playing lottery games for decades but only recently began playing jackpot games such as Powerball.

“For years I regularly played QuickPicks in the Saturday Lotto and Super 66,” he explained.

“But it wasn’t until the last few years I’ve decided to play Powerball as I prefer the chance to win bigger jackpots.”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his 24-game QuickPick entry from North Kew Newsagency, 93 Willmere Road, North Kew.

Amy Phan, team member at North Kew Newsagency, said they were thrilled the winner had come forward to claim their prize.

“We are so excited that we found our missing winner!” she exclaimed.

“It is great news they know they have won and can start enjoying their prize.

“Congratulations to our winner! We wish them all the best!”

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1142 on Thursday 5 April 2018 were 5, 25, 22, 8, 18, and 23, while the all-important Powerball number was 10.

Across Australia there were only one winning entry in Powerball draw 1142.

Last financial year, 18 Powerball division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $273 million.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 333 so far this financial year, including 122 won by Tatts customers.
