Aussies have shown their caring spirit this Christmas, helping to raise more than $4.5 million for sick children and their families across New South Wales through the Channel 9 Light Up Xmas Appeal.

Held on Saturday 19 December and made possible by The Lott, the inaugural appeal was hosted by well-known personalities Richard Wilkins, David Campbell and Brooke Boney.

A total of $4.5 million was raised for the Sydney Children’s Hospital’s Foundation for research breakthroughs, state-of-the-art equipment and world-class services and care.

The Light Up Xmas Appeal shared the inspiring journeys of sick kids, their families and Sydney’s network of healthcare heroes, highlighting the everyday miracles that occur across the hospitals and services in New South Wales.

We were proud to be involved and help share the story of young Colby from Bateman’s Bay, who was diagnosed with methymalonic aciduria – a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder where the body is unable to process certain proteins or fats properly.

Fortunately, because of the wonderful work of the newborn emergency transport service (NETS) and the hospital, Colby was able to receive the care required and is now on the path to leading a normal life.
