Powerball $80 Million jackpot -
Thursday 20 October 2022

Powerball's second $80 million draw for 2022 (draw 1379) has been won!

Powerball has soared to an eye-watering $80 million for next week’s draw – the second-biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.

The last time Powerball offered $80 million was in May this year. On that occasion, the prize was shared by two division one winners - a St Albans woman and a Fairfield mother.

Powerball Winners

Last year, a Powerball $80 million prize was won on three occasions. In April 2021, an $80 million jackpot was shared by two New South Wales players who won $40 million each.

Then in August last year, a Victorian man walked away with the entire prize making him the state’s biggest ever individual lottery winner.

And in December 2021, an $80 million jackpot was won by 55 women from a Western Australian gym.

A mother in her 40s from inner city Sydney holds the record for the largest individual win in Australian lottery history when she took home the entire $100 million Powerball jackpot in January 2019.

The healthcare worker pocketed the entire division one prize which was boosted to a phenomenal $107,575,649.08 due to the number of entries purchased in the draw. At the time, this was the largest Powerball jackpot prize ever offered.

“I’m a healthcare professional but I won’t be retiring! I’m so passionate about my job. It will drive me to do more health work for causes important to me,” the elated healthcare worker declared.

The down-to-earth mum also shared she would be donating to charity, and of course helping her family.

Powerball Entry Prices

Of the 14 Powerball division one wins in 2021, 10 were secured by QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly chose the numbers. The remaining three wins came from marked entries, where people completed a coupon with their favourite numbers.

Half of last year's 14 winning Powerball entries were PowerHit entries, a special kind of entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number that you need to win division one.

Regardless of which entry you choose to play, it is worth noting that each number has an equal chance of being drawn. It goes without saying you do need to have an entry to be in with a chance of taking home a prize!

To grab an entry in this Thursday’s Powerball draw you can head in-store to your local outlet, online or via The Lott app.

How to Win Powerball

Playing Powerball is easy! To buy your entry, simply choose your favourite seven numbers and a Powerball number.

The numbers are drawn from two barrels. Seven numbers are drawn from the main barrel (numbered from 1 to 35) and one Powerball number is drawn from the Powerball barrel (numbered from 1 to 20).

There are nine prize divisions in Powerball. You can win a prize with as little as two winning numbers plus the Powerball number in a single game. To win the division one jackpot, your entry needs to match all seven winning numbers plus the Powerball number in a single game.

Powerball could give you the freedom to play by your own rules.

Powerball draws close at 7.30pm (AEST) every Thursday night.

Our teams are often asked 'What happens when you win?'. We encourage all players to register their entry. That way, your prize is secure and our team can contact you if you win division one and confirm life changing news.

When a winning ticket is registered, our team must follow a strict process to firstly confirm we are speaking to the rightful ticket holder. If you are a registered player, we will have the details you’ve provided us with as well as your entry details.

Once we’ve confirmed we are speaking to the rightful ticket holder, we break the big news!

But if you bought a physical ticket in-store and think you have won the big one give us a call on 131 868. Our team will explain that you will need to fill out a prize claim form which can either be mailed to you, printed from our website or picked up in person from a newsagent.

Once the form is filled out, it must be mailed back to us – along with the winning ticket – or dropped off in-person at a prize administration office.

Along with a novelty cheque and some winners champagne, we send each of our division one winners a booklet that details things they may like to consider. This includes speaking to a financial advisor and sharing the news with loved ones.

The odds of winning Division 1 is 134,490,400:1 & the odds of winning Division 2 is 7,078,443:1. It's important to note that Powerball is a game of chance where all numbers are drawn randomly. Each number has an equal chance of being drawn.
