More than a week after the draw, a Nambour mother and son have emerged as the mystery Sunshine Coast division one winners lottery officials have been searching for, with the duo describing their win as a fairy tale.

The elusive pair held one of the 10 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4177, drawn Saturday 31 July 2021. Each entry took home a division one prize worth $2 million.

Confirming their overwhelming prize with us this morning, the winning woman explained she’d spent all of the past week completely oblivious of her windfall.

“Thank you ever so much,” she said.

“I still can’t believe it!

“I went into the newsagency on Saturday and checked the ticket.

“It was such a shock when they told me they couldn’t pay out the prize.

“There were so many things running through my mind. It was so overwhelming. It still is!

“I am sharing the win with my son. We always buy tickets together.
“It’s incredible. I still can’t believe it. It’s like a fairy tale!”

With $2 million about to hit their bank accounts, the winning pair had no doubt things were about to change in a big way.

“I don’t know exactly how we will use the prize at the moment,” the mum explained.

“But I do know that it will be life-changing for us; it really will.

“I’ll be able to do some renovations done around the house, and my son will be able to really set himself up.

“It will be amazing!”

The winning entry was purchased at Nambour Village News, Shop 3, 9-15 Mill Street, Nambour.

Nambour Village News manager Danielle Parkinson said she was thrilled the mystery winner had finally come forward.

“We are so happy to see this prize go to loyal and local customers,” she said.

“It feels absolutely amazing to sell a division one prize, and we are so happy for our winners.”

“I got goosebumps and started crying when I read that I had sold a division one prize. I rang my parents, who own the store, and they were over the moon.

“Nambour is such a small and lovely community town so everyone is so happy for them.

“A massive congratulations to our winners!”
