A Mudgeeraba man has thanked a fortune cookie he ate years ago for delivering him Monday night’s winning combination of lottery numbers.

The Gold Coast resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3944 on Monday 3 February 2020. He takes home a prize of $1 million.

The man’s marked System 8 entry also won division three 12 times and division four 15 times, boosting his total prize to $1,007,125.75.

Confirming his win with us this afternoon, the shocked player said he was still coming to terms with the life-changing news.

“I checked my ticket last night and I thought my heart was going to explode,” he said.

“I didn’t believe what I was seeing. I thought there had to be some sort of mistake!

“The news is definitely still sinking in. I think it’s going to take a while to hit me.

“You wouldn’t believe how I picked those numbers, they were in a fortune cookie I ate years and years ago.

"There’ve been really lucky numbers, always delivering me small wins and now this!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his million-dollar windfall the man said it was time for a holiday.

“I definitely want to go overseas,” he said.

“I’ve always wanted to go to New York.

“I will keep working but I do want to scale things back a bit, I’d love to be able to work part time and now I finally have the option to do that!”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry at Mudgeeraba Newsagency, Shop 23, Mudgeeraba Markets, 3 Swan Lane, Mudgeeraba.

Mudgeeraba Newsagency employee Trent Woods said he was relieved to know the winner had come forward.

“We’re so happy to know this incredible prize has gone to a local,” he said.

“Congratulations to him! We really hope he enjoys his prize.

“The last time we sold a division one winning entry was around 18 months ago. We hope we sell plenty more to our customers soon!”
