"Three Amigos" from Gwydir Shire ride off into the sunset with $2 million Oz Lotto win!
A merry band of three mates from northern New South Wales’ Gwydir Shire is ready to ride off into the sunset after winning more than $2 million in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.
The private syndicate, named the “Three Amigos”, held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1247 on Tuesday 9 January 2018.
In addition to winning the division one prize of more than $2 million, the syndicate’s entry of three System 8 games also won division three 7 times, bolstering their total prize to $2,102,649.98.
A NSW Lotteries official contacted the winners first thing this morning to deliver the dream-come-true news, but the syndicate leader explained the mates had already discovered their win and had been up all night!
“Pretty mad, eh?” the syndicate leader laughed.
“Last night just before bed, my wife had a look at the Oz Lotto numbers and read them out, and I said ‘that’s my bloody numbers!’. So we had a look at it and we didn’t go to bed until 4am this morning!
“The three games we played – me and two of my mates have been doing that entry for the past 10 weeks. The three of us have won it. My numbers, but we’re all in it together.
“We made a pact to go in Oz Lotto each week with a System 8. One of us wanted to change the numbers last week because we hadn’t won, and I said ‘hang on a bit’ and we won this week!
“I rang my mates to tell them last night – we’ve had a fun night I tell you!”
The three long-time friends are semi-retired and already have plans for their Oz Lotto windfall.
“We’re trying to stay pretty calm about it,” the syndicate leader said.
“We’re going to get a new home, my mate’s going to get a farm and my other mate will pay his home off. It’s all pretty good!
“The Three Amigos! We’re riding off into the sunset with $2 million!”
The semi-retired friends, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry of three System 8 games online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto’s $40 million draw 1247 on Tuesday 9 January 2018 were 45, 26, 8, 1, 43, 9 and 40. The supplementary numbers were 34 and 27.
Last financial year, 18 Oz Lotto winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $182 million. The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 234 so far this financial year, including 75 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
