Kids fighting cancer given the chance to be kids again
Play For Purpose is a not-for-profit raffle helping hundreds of great Australian causes supercharge their fundraising. As part of its support of community organisations, The Lott provides resources and financial support to every Play For Purpose raffle.
At Camp Quality, laughter is always one of the best medicines.
Camp Quality offers an escape for children battling aggressive cancer, where they’re given the chance to leave the hospital behind and just be kids again.
In 2019 they ensured more than 7,500 kids had the chance take part in Camp Quality’s initiatives. These include in-hospital therapy sessions, school programs, at home family experiences, retreats, and Camp Quality’s famous family and kids’ camps.
Camp Quality CEO Deborah Thomas said the organisation recently celebrated its 35th birthday and was making plans to help kids facing cancer for at least another 35 years.
“The team at Camp Quality are there for kids and their family through the ups and downs, providing opportunities and encouragement to laugh, make new friends and have adventures,” she said
“The organisation relies entirely on the generosity of everyday Australians and corporate partners to provide services and programs free of charge to thousands of kids and families every year.
“COVID-19 has made the world even smaller and more frightening for kids fighting cancer.
“Most are now in extreme isolation at home or in hospital to protect their compromised immune systems. In many cases, they can’t see people they love. And their confinement will continue long after most Australians have returned to normal.
“At such a difficult time in their lives, kids impacted by cancer are more cut off than ever from the friends and adventures they so desperately need.
“Every day, the backlog of kids and families trapped in this nightmare and waiting for one of our Camps, grows rapidly, which is why we’re urging Australians to help us meet this overwhelming need.”
