A pair of Birkdale brothers have taken the term ‘brotherly love’ to the next level after sharing an unforgettable $200,000 Instant Scratch-Its windfall.

The top prize-winning $15 Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Birkdale Newsagency, Shop 4, Birkdale Fair Shopping Centre, 196 Birkdale Road, Birkdale.

One of the winning brothers couldn’t wait to claim their prize at The Lott head office yesterday morning but shared that he had to wait for his brother to come back from a trip.

“Holy dooly! We’re still so excited,” he revealed.

“I bought some Instant Scratch-Its tickets when I was buying my newspaper at the local newsagency. It’s something I like to do to treat myself and I always go halves with my brother.

“I went back home to scratch away, and I just couldn’t believe my eyes.

“I said to myself, ‘Is this true? What’s going on?’. I called my brother straight away and we were a bit surprised.

“The newsagency told me that they couldn’t pay out the prize as there’s a limit, so I had to wait until my brother returned from a holiday away.

“I’ve had a few wins here and there - $500, $200, $25, and $50, but nothing ever like this!

“I can’t wait to surprise the newsagency owner. The next time I’ll go in there, I’ll say, ‘You know who won on the Instant Scratch-Its ticket?’.

“Thank you so much. This will really help our retirement funds.”

Birkdale Newsagency owner Adrian Johal said he was grinning from ear to ear knowing his team had sold a top prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket to local customers.

“Oh, it feels absolutely amazing! We’re just as happy as our customers and it’s always a great feeling when we sell a winning ticket to the local community,” he exclaimed.

“We’ve already shared the winning news with a lot of our customers and they’re just as excited as us.

“We sold a division one winning ticket in Saturday Gold Lotto worth around $700,000 about a year ago. It’s perfect timing that we’ve sold this ticket precisely a year on and marks our fifth major win!

“Congratulations to the winners and we wish them all the best. Thank you for supporting Birkdale Newsagency for many years, and we hope you can continue visiting us!”
