Today is National Sibling Day, so we’re setting aside our rivalries and long-held grudges over who stole whose clothes, and who was really to blame for ‘that thing’.

When it comes to standout sibling success, we’ll never forget the two young Newcastle brothers who won division one in Set for Life. Imagine getting a call in the middle of the night from your brother telling you you’d won $20,000 every month for twenty years!

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw we had won. I thought I was dreaming so I called my brother straight away to double check,” one of the winning duo explained.  

“The first thing he said was, ‘What’s wrong? No one calls at midnight unless something bad has happened!’.

“We are young, so this gives us an opportunity to really live life to the fullest.”

Sunshine Coast siblings share Saturday Lotto surprise

Every family has unique traditions, but four Sunshine Coast siblings had a routine that really paid off when their Saturday Lotto syndicate scored them a $2.5 million prize.  

“There’s four of us who went in on this ticket, my brothers and my sister,” the syndicate leader said.  

“They were our mum’s numbers that she played for 40 years and ever since she passed away, we’ve been playing them as a little family syndicate.  

“My sister-in-law called me on Saturday night, she’d just watched the draw. I couldn’t even understand what she was trying to tell me because she was in such a state!” 

Oaklands Park sisters in the running for ‘daughters of the year’

Of course, there’s no sibling tradition more sacred than the time-honoured practice of not listening to your parents. Two Oakland Park sisters were thrilled that despite their mum’s doubts, their wildest dreams did come true when they won a $1 million Lotto prize. 

“Funnily enough, we were so close to not getting this ticket because our mum told us to not waste our time. But we persisted – I’m so glad we did,” one of the winning sisters told us. 

“As soon as I checked the ticket and discovered we won division one, I rang my sister up straight away and told her the winning news. She thought I was pulling her leg!

“We will definitely share this among the three of us. We will buy our mum a top-of-the-range recliner and wheelchair too. She can have anything she wants!”

You might be surprised by how often siblings get to soak up the joys of a lottery win, even when they didn’t purchase the winning entry themselves. 

A Mornington woman who’s going to use some of her $100,000 Instant Scratch-It’s win to go on a theme park adventure said she’d take her brothers along for the ride too.   

And a Carnes Hill Powerball winner said she’d be buying her sister a new car and paying off her mortgage with her $9 million win. 

Makes us think today’s a good day to be extra nice to our siblings… just in case!
