A pair of retired friends from the Hunter Valley are celebrating today after their entry snared a $2.2 million division one prize in the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.
 
The happy duo held one of the nine division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 3873 on 1 September 2018. Each entry took home a division one prize of $2,222,222.23.
 
Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official today, the private syndicate leader said she discovered the life-changing win yesterday.
 
“I don’t always buy a ticket but because the draw had $20 million up for grabs we thought we should,” she said.
 
“I checked the ticket yesterday and I first saw five numbers in a row and thought ‘oh that’s good’. But then I saw all six numbers were there!

“I nearly fainted! Nothing like this has ever happened to me before.

“I got my friend to check it. I said ‘I think we’ve got all six!’. He didn’t believe me but then he checked the ticket himself.”
 
While the pair have yet to form firm plans for how they will use their share of their division one windfall, they do plan to share it with those at the top of their Lotto List – their respective families.
 
The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry from Bulahdelah Newsagency, 75 Shroud Street, Bulahdelah.
 
Bulahdelah Newsagency owner Stacey Brown said she was ecstatic to have sold a division one winning entry – just a month after taking over ownership of the outlet.
 
“It’s a great way to christen the store!” she said.
 
“We’ve got balloons up and everything. We’re celebrating on behalf of our winner and we can’t wait to do it again.”
 
So far this calendar year, Monday & Wednesday Lotto and Saturday Lotto have created 128 millionaires across Australia.
 
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 3873 on Saturday 1 September 2018 were 36, 16, 14, 10, 43 and 5, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 18.
 
Across Australia there were nine division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 3873 – three each from Victoria and New South Wales, and one each from Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
 
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 275 so far this calendar year, including 72 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
 
Last financial year, there were 290 division one winning Saturday Lotto entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions, which collectively won more than $302.7 million.
